Perfect micro multitool.
I have owned a Gerber Dime 30-000469 since summer 2013, and loved it despite the fact than some of the springs were very stiff, making it painful to open the screwdriver tools. This new 31-001040 model of the Dime fixes the spring problems and still has everything I loved about the older Dime. It has exactly the tools I need in a micro multitool: pliers, blade, screwdrivers, file, and scissors. The file could be slightly better, but it works well enough in combination with the rest to still give this 5 stars. The package opener works well when I remember to use it. The blade is a "spey" style, which is perfect for a small slipjoint like this, in my opinion. The flat bladed and "flat phillips" drivers are excellent for their type. The scissors are precise, and perfect for all the small tasks I've used them for, like trimming threads, clipping coupons, clipping errant facial hair, etc.The bottle opener works fine, but is of a type which bends the cap instead of lifting it cleanly. That's fine for me, but cap collectors might not like it.The pliers are excellent and very precise. I've had no problems using them for size-appropriate tasks.I owned my first Dime for months before I realized it had tweezers. They are similar to Victorinox tweezers, and work quite well. All in all, it's a perfect pocket tool kit for me, and is also very light and inexpensive for the type. This tool is worth a solid 5/5 stars.

Very Handy. Not Robust
My first one finally gave up the ghost. I get a lot of use out this this and always have it in my pocket. I really would like to give it a higher rating but truth is it is not as sturdy as it should be. Care should be taken to not to squeeze too when using the pliers as the stops will bend and pretty much make the pliers useless. To put this in perspective, that happened to my original one when using it to remove my car antenna at the car wash. Still, knowing this I bought another because I get a lot of use out of it. Wish I could give more stars but it would be misleading.

Great overall, lots of pros and innovations, one serious con.
I use to have the Leatherman PS4 which i still like slightly better than the Dime. While I can carry these on planes under the lightened regulations and TSA discretion, the San Diego County fair thought they were an eminent danger and took my PS4 from me. So I bought the Dime.Pros:Overall good qualityLove all the extra tools not found on other Micro multi tools.Love the box cutter, someone was using their noodle. I use that the most. While a bit dinky, I use the tweezers all the time. Especially when soldering things. The knife holds an edge well.ConsThe scissors on this guy suck. While using them, you can look down and there is actually a gap that appears between the two blades. I thought it was the one I received so I called out for a replacement, but the one that came in the mail was just as bad. They are not really capable of anything. I never use them, where as on the Leatherman PS4 they were one of the top things I use.It has the tendency to pinch you if you aren't paying attention when you close it.Final take away: The Dime is overall very good and if you're on a budget don't shy away from getting this. Because of the scissors I would seriously consider spending a bit more on the PS4 or some other microtool.

Awesome useful and affordable gift idea.
This tool is super cool! I was gifted one of these as a groomsman at a wedding, clipped it on to my keychain, and jumped in my truck to travel from San Diego to Texas hauling a 30' 5th wheel, camping and paragliding along the way. During that trip, having pliers, a knife, a driver and such came in incredibly useful any number of times. I abused and broke my tool.. it's obvious that a 3" fold-up pocket plier as light weight as this is shouldn't be used in conjunction with vice grips or whatever rigamarole I pulled.. and I busted the lever keeping one of the arms from hyper-extending so that the pliers now only function if I work them from the metal nearest the mouth. Before it broke, I used it for mechanical and household jobs which involved a great deal more pressure and torque than you would expect a tool like this would put up with. For two years I used it heavily, over-tasked it, and I am impressed with how long it held up. This tool is useful on just about a daily basis if you carry it on you.

Painfully Average
For the price, it's not too bad. A good light-duty multi-tool, just don't expect it to take much of a beating. I've had it for two months and while I've not had issues with any of the tools coming loose, the knife edge definitely has not held up to cutting thin plastic and tape on a daily basis. The edge is rough, and very difficult to maintain due to the orientation of the blade to the handle. The file is great in theory, but also is nearly useless because of its location directly underneath the bottle opener when fully opened. The tweezers tend to slide out of their housing while in my pocket and seem like they'd get lost easily. Finally, the scissors are not properly aligned and won't cut anything much thicker than paper without difficulty. The tools that see the most use and have held up well are the drivers, pliers, and package opener. The drivers are the perfect size for mounting the attachments for my rotary tool. The pliers are perfect for getting a good grip on small things. The package opener sees the most use, as it far more easily cuts through the tape and plastic that the knife blade can't handle. The bottle opener is a bottle opener. Not much to say about that. Works reliably. This little tool would be perfect if not for the quality control issues with some of the tools, but you can't really expect much at this price point. It would be worth the extra money for a good Leatherman.

Pliers broke after very first squeeze! Disappointingly RUBBISH! 😡
What a let-down! 😡 I'd researched between this and the squirt ps4 & read some mixed reviews but tons of mostly positive reviews for the dime so ordered this, & I REALLY wanted to love it - great form factor, tool selection, and much cheaper than the leatherman. BUT within 60 seconds of opening the pack, after a not too excessive squeeze of the pliers handles, one of the handles bent and part of the mechanism that holds the tool together also bent & popped out - now the tool will not open and is basically broken. Absolutely terrible quality - more like what I'd expect on a £5 market jobby! Really - it's not like I tried to even loosen some big heavy bolt or anything, I'd just given it a squeeze in my hand!! Absolutely pathetic. I know these are only for light duty but come on, Gerber, very sadly this is just not fit for purpose. It's going straight back for a refund and I'll be spending the extra on the squirt ps4. If u don't want to use pliers just get a victorinox manager instead - cheaper, lighter, excellent tools, and meanwhile I'm going to hope the wee leatherman is going to be worth the extra cash over this piece of garbage. Very sorely disappointed, and I wonder how on earth it has managed to get so many favourable reviews?! Perhaps I got a dodgy particular one, but I won't be wasting my time trying another as I just think it's made of poor metal. Poo!!

Stiff as anything
Majority (see below) of tools seem pretty good. Knife is solid and agreeably sharp, as is the package opener. Scissors do their job, though perhaps a little stiff to squeeze. The screwdrivers appear solid enough and seem to do their job too.I thought the bottle opener being an external one would annoy me, but it grew on my rather quickly. It's solid, opens bottles and doubles as an extra secure way of attaching to keyrings or the likes.Pliers are another good point here. Strong and sturdy with wire cutters built in. They also serve as excellent tweezers. Quite possibly better than the tweezers that you also get with this. What is irking me right now however is just how hard it is to get the tools out. I've never been good at getting tools out with my nails and generally went to my teeth. That's not happening here. I pretty much need another tool (or keys in this case) just to pull the blighters out. Perhaps they will loosen over time. Also, the file is kind of pathetic. less said about that, the better.Brief summary-Good:- Majority of tools (great knife/package opener/bottle opener/pliers)- Looks attractive- Great size- Feels solidBad:- Stiffness- File

Not a bad little tool.
For the size it's not too bad, but the quality of the metal is quite poor.I bought this to replace my leatherman squirt which got confiscated at an airport in India, and it seems like a bit of a step down, but still fairly comparable. The individual tools are ok considering the size and also the price compared to equivalent leatherman multitools. My knife dulled very quickly and is actually difficult to get sharp again. The pliers and tweezers aren't all that great unless you're trying to grab small solid parts. The scissors and file seem useless due to their size. The best features seem to be the box cutter, bottle opener, and screwdrivers. All in all, for the size it's actually not a bad multitool considering how small it is, and how bad the generic brand tools are in comparison. For a similiar price I think a victorinox would be a better option, due to their large selection of tool combinations at different sizes. Their tools are also of a much higher quality.

Poorly finished
The item seems solid and could be good if not for a few issues.-The tools on the sides all very stiff, you do not have to worry about the spring locking when because they are so stiff to get in and out.-The knife blade was pretty blunt and seemed liked it hadn't been properly honed.-The scissors were sharper but still not great, the blades were also bent inwards slightly meaning that as they close they are forced to bend straight again. This puts a lot of pressure on the pin holding everything together resulting in problems cutting.-The general finish on many of the other tools is poor, the screws drivers had been machine unevenly on each side and had slight burrs on the edges. Some people have got good ones and seem happy others like me haven't, quality control seem poor. Comparing it to the Leatherman Squirt; both are rugged but the squirt is better made and finished, in truth neither are as well made or finished a a Victorinox Swiss Amry Knife.

Low quality tool, not worth more then £10 max.
I ordered this Gerber Dime tool after seeing and reading plenty of positive reviews, but I also saw the odd review complaining about the general quality of this made in China tool but ignored those initially and ordered one. The first one arrived, but was bent at the hinge (pics), and it looked like it was used or a reject but it came in a sealed package.. not sure, anyway it didn't feel like it was worth the £20 or that the "life time warranty" would hold up if the item is already a little dodgy when it arrives. It was promptly returned and amazons return service is excellent, and instead of getting a refund ordered a replacement. I thought I may have just received the odd bad product and was looking forward to the replacement dime. The second dime arrived, this was not bent at the hinge but the scissors were bent, so when you opened them, they were at a slight angle and when pushing back into the tool they would catch on something and would have to be bent slightly so the push back in. Gerber may be a decent company, but the dimes are seriously low quality products, someone has not been concentrating on quality control at the chinese factory. I have seen better £5 multi-tools in maplins which at least are aligned properly and also made in china. I have heard that the full size gerber tools are made in USA, I will just ordered one of those, at least the quality reflects the price, with the dime, gerber are relying on their US made tools reputation and trying to pull a fast one by selling this at this price.
