Great mic, strange clip
I recently bought 6 of these for a reinforcement gig that I didn't have enough mics to cover (using a mix of different types of mics is almost always a bad idea in a hot/live room). I'm very happy with their performance, and I will be putting them to use on upcoming gigs. Now that I've had some time to play with them a little, and after getting them into the hands of a variety of musicians/speakers (both in the studio and on stage), I don't mind telling you what I think. :-)These mics sound very similar to a Beta 58 except that they have a cardioid pickup pattern rather than the Beta's hyper-cardioid - if you have a good ear, you will hear the difference, but most folks won't notice. They are well built and have a good heft; and handling noise is minimal (better than my Beta 58s, in fact).I have two very minor complaints:1) the stand-clip (the little plasticy doodad that the mic rests in when it's not in someone's hand) doesn't fit the mic as closely as I would like. And the only stable way to insert the mic into the clip is with the badge to the side of the mic (so you can read the badge if you are standing to the left or right of the mic stand). This turns out to be quite unintuitive for most singers; and they will spend a fair amount of time fumbling with the mic on stage while they try to figure it out.2) The shoulder of the XLR plug is a little too long for my cables to latch correctly. a dremel tool applied to the edge of the little square hole inside the plug will fix it, but I consider this a quality control failure that I hope gets addressed in future manufacturing runs.Otherwise, I'm very happy with these mics. I'm sure I'll be buying more in the future.
