Q: Is there a current limiter for the led indicator? I have 4 turns to indicate the low current that I need, but will it burn out at full rating.

Hi, no there is no current limiter. But if you put 4 turn to have a indication of a small current It's ok. Beware not to go over the limit of the unit if the current go's high at different time.

Q: Does this product include a surface mount attachment, so LED can be mounted at or near panel surface without significantly protruding through panel?

I don't know about surface mount. I'm going to drill an appropriate size hole in a blank cover plate and fasten the plate to a standard wall mount receptacle box which I installed while rewiring the house. The leads then snake down to the basement where I pick up the power for my 200foot underground submersible pump.

This setup will give you a analog type indication in that the LED turn on is around 1 amp = dim and continues to get brighter as your load increases..say 10 amps = bright. I taped the led to a photocell and tied this to an arduino input pin to read from remote location. Hope this helps....Davew

Yes, so long as a smaller sized wire (in AWG size) is NOT used, up to 10 feet is fine, since the voltage and current are so low, there is little, if any, volt drop.
