Item Package Quantity:3 Start saving water today! One of the great mysteries of sprinkler systems is how to program your timer so you don’t waste water. Making sure you use just the right amount of water starts with an irrigation audit which leads to maximum sprinkler efficiency, and that’s where Orbit sprinkler catch cups (also known as catch cans) come in. They simply and effectively help you conserve water, perform your own sprinkler audit and reduce your water bill by accurately measuring sprinkler application rates for each watering station. Simply place the catch cups in the included catch stands, run your sprinkler timer for 10-20 minutes per station, record the amount of water that falls into each cup and input the numbers into Orbit's exclusive watering schedule application. Voila! Using a combination of site-specific and historical weather data, the application will tell you the optimum timer schedule for each station, including duration and frequency settings for every month of the year

As described and complete.
Mine are the Orange version, but still as advertised and are complete with instructions. Harder to find at this reasonable price than you would think. For all the complaints, it is what it is and designed to work with Orbit's calculator. If you did your homework there should be no surprises. 7-28-17 UPDATE After contacting Orbit about the website referenced in the instructions failing to work, Orbit has fixed the website!!! I can now use both Chrome and Edge for water calculations. Also NOTE: If you a using the b-Hyve irrigation control you do not need the website. Just enter your measurements directly into the app.

Homedepot has same product for 19.80 and delivers faster
I'm surprised that the orbit app links directly to amazon when clicking on the link "purchase catch cups." These work fine for adding the extra info into the Orbitz controller, but why does amazon sell them at a premium price? I had to wait a couple of weeks for delivery, too. That isn't the usual level of service from amazon and I'm surprised.

These worked out great for setting up our Rainmachine HD-12 with accurate rate and efficiency values. Instead of using the generic values assigned by the Rainmachine for various sprinkler heads, we were able to get a true indication of our irrigation system. Another plus was identified a problem with coverage in one of our zones that we can easily fix. For those that own a controller by a different company, Orbit does have the b-Hyve Lite app in the iOS App Store that you can use along with these cups to plug in your results. For anyone using any type of smart controller, this is a must for the controller to accurately determine the right schedule. Even if you are not using a smart controller, these cups are a wise thing to get to do an irrigation audit anyway. One not is the cups measure in mL’s — but the app takes care of converting the rate in to in/hr — easily allowed us to change the sprinkler head types on our Rainmachine to a custom head type with the right values.

There's not a whole lot to like or dislike about this product
There's not a whole lot to like or dislike about this product. It catches water, and you read off the amount. Just for reference since I went through the calculations: The side of the cup appears to be calibrated in cc's, and I was trying to calibrate that to inches or precipitation. It turns out that capturing 25cc's, which is nominally 1", must be divided by 4 to get the actual precipitation rate. In other words: Capturing 50cc's of liquid means 1/2" of precipitation. If you use the Orbit website you won't have to worry about that anyway. One tip: Running zones with spray type sprinklers for 10 minutes works great, but if you're using rotors, I would suggest running them for 20 minutes when you go through the measuring process. 10 minutes is too short of a time to capture enough liquid to accurately measure.AND DON'T FORGET TO ADJUST YOUR SPRINKLERS! If you're going to go through this hassle, then work at getting your zones to give you good efficiency (65% +). If not, adjust heads, move sprinklers, different nozzles, etc. By reworking my sprinkler system and using the catch cups, I was able to reduce my overall watering time by 90 minutes!

Very good concept that is undone by faulty technology
These cups had potential and I was excited to use them to get a real idea of how to efficiently program my sprinkler system. After gathering the data, however, I was unable to use it since the associated website seems to have a glitch that will not allow it to determine my location which prevents it from calculating my results. I repeatedly get an error “Sorry, we couldn't find your location.” .. I called Orbit product support and the representative was very unhelpful. Rather than address the issue of the faulty website, he kept advising me to simply purchase a B-Hyve controller to replace my existing controller and the use the B-Hyve app to enter the data and have it sent directly to my new controller. Sorry, Orbit that is not the way this is supposed to work. I was supposed to be able to pay for the cups and then use the FREE website to enter the values to get a custom watering program that I could then manually program into any existing controller! I will be returning these for a refund.

Overpriced Plastic
Though these can be helpful in seeing which areas of your yard are getting more or less water and even setting up a plan on how to water more evenly, I just can't see how the price is justified. The plastic makes all the pieces strong and durable, sure, but I think they're extremely overpriced for their intended function and I doubt it cost them more than a buck or two to make. I only bought them as I have multiple members of my family that were interested in them too, but for just one person I can't imagine the price is worth it. I highly doubt that I'll figure out how to save as much money as these cost, which is kinda the entire point of a product such as this. They measure in mL which is important for any Orbit product coordination (I have their Smart Sprinkler system), but I have to wonder why when all other products measure in inches... I assume it's to have you buy their products and ecosystem. I'm disappointed in that... It feels like a cash grab. I only got them as a promotion gave me some credit to help offset the cost that made it feel like a risk worth taking. That being said, they work as intended and are easy to understand and utilize, so I can't give them less than 3 stars. (My stakes were a dull orange color instead of black though.) After a half hour of use you'll think to yourself "well, that was quick, now what?". I guess if you're going to continue to use these for many people the price could be worth it, maybe...

For the seriously lawn-obsessed ...
Aren't these about the silliest things you ever thought you'd buy? Special cups to catch and measure sprinkler water. Okay, so much for the obvious but for those of us a bit more OCD than normal about our lawns will actually see the value in these. They're well made. Seem to be accurate and I expect to be able to use them a long, long time.

Expensive but did same me money on water.
Expensive but it did show me how uneven my sprinklers were. I was able to change some nozzles to increase some areas and reduce in others. I was then able to determine how long to run the sprinklers to get the desired amount of water. I was able to reduce run times so overall it paid for itself. Also gives the neighbors something to talk about 🤔
