Strong spring, tough metal, won't rust
Excellent! Mice, rats, squirrels, chipmunks can't chew them. I love that they won't rust. They have a strong spring and are very sensitive, so even mice generally trip them. So be careful not to get your fingers caught.

Very nicely built
Nice and strong very well made thick metal. The serrated edges are very dangerous if you get your finger caught in the Trap would cause some serious damage but it's meant to do a job just watch your fingers. Definitely worth the money. Have caught more rats with these that I've ever caught in with wooden traps.

14 rats in 4 days caught but will eventually fail
These work great until they don't. I baited the traps with cracked corn for a couple of days and then set out about 10 traps. I killed 14 rats in 4 days, GRRREAT! However metal is flimsy but the fail part of the traps are the tab holders. They brake off due to wear and tear. I will re attach. use cracked corn I bought mine for chickens at Tractor supply (cheap). Happy trapping.

effective and with a slight modification it's also humane
This is, obviously, a large version of the tried-and-true Victor mouse traps. It's better than the larger Victor rat version, however, because this one is made of metal, and while wood is fine for the smaller mouse versions, metal is the way to go when these traps scale in size. The biggest complaint people tend to have with these traps is that they aren't humane if a rat doesn't get whacked right on its head or neck. The solution to this is to build a quick open-topped cardboard enclosure for the back half of the trap. This will lead to rats approaching from the front and that'll be that. The same rules apply to these as to their smaller mouse-trap cousins, only more so:1) Set the trigger mechanism as sensitive as possible2) Be VERY careful when setting the trigger mechanism -- be sure to cover the snap bar with one hand while gently adjusting the trigger plate so that if you set it too far you won't smash your hand. This trap probably WILL be able to break your finger.3) Be generous with your use of traps. I cluster them together.4) Avoid getting your scent on the traps as much as possible. I use nitrile gloves that I rub lightly with peanut butter before handling the traps so that the only scent that gets transferred to the trap is something delicious.

Would purchase again
Though we didn't have any luck, it seemed to be operational as expected

Most effective trap I've tried
Our chickens and horses food attracted rats. Tried bucket traps, Havahart, old fashioned wood spring. Rats learn fast. Buggers found their way into our basement. I've killed nine full size rats this fall. One entered sideways and that was not a clean kill. Had to drown it. Now I make sure there is a clear space in front of the trap. Every other time it was a clean kill. I put a loop of braided fishing line on the trigger plate and hide it inside peanut butter. Be careful that your pets or someones hands can't find these on accident, they are strong and have teeth. They are very effective for adult rats. The young can sometimes clean the bait off without triggering the trap. I'm ordering four more for the barn. Hope to solve this problem once and for all this winter. Never had rats before. Don't ever want them again.

Traps bounce when set off
Too much spring, the traps bounce when they go off so the rodents don't get caught.

Dead Rat
I placed 2 next to each other, no bait or anything on them. I left the dead rat there for a day or so until starts to smell and no other rodent has come back since.
