Solid as a rock
These are great rings, and they stay where you put them. I only buy Warne. Just make sure you use a torque wrench when installing any rifle scope. I will get the Fat Wrench from Wheeler engineering.

Best scope rings I have ever owned.
I have purchased alot of scope rings, for hunting and range time. I bought these scope rings 2 years ago for my hunting 308. It never fails I always bang and abuse my rifle, bull in a China shop, but my scope has never once came off my zero. I sighted in 2 years ago, but make sure my rifle is still zeroed before the hunting season and it hasn't moved even 1/8th off zero in 2 years. Truly a great scope rings. I now have these scope rings for all my weapons.

Best mount for the money and then some!
Most scope rings has one side that clamps down. That is not an issue when a rail is precision machined AND the base of the ring matches the rail. If the mating of the rail and the ring clamp is less than perfect, most rings end up offset from bore center and has minimal contact with the rail. This often results in insecure scope mount where a bump or heavy recoil can move the POI all over the place. The Warne Maxima rings solve this problem by clamping together as two equal halves. This eliminates the whole problem of bore offset as long as the scope rail aligns with the bore. Furthermore, the clamp of these rings is precision angled and machined. Just hand tightening using a 1/4" bit makes a ring feel secure and not wobbly on a rail (unlike the single sided clamps).Another advantage of the Warne Maxima rings is the overall width is actually very manageable compared to other double screw rings. This is an advantage for short scopes where there is not much tube length to clamp onto.As far as mounting the rings is concerned, here is the method that I use. Mount the ring onto the scope first, just hand tighten using a 1/4" bit. I usually loosely tighten the top of the ring first so that the scope won't "escape". This gives you the flexibility at the base to fit the clamp onto the rail. The bar to fit into Picatinny slots is easy to fall out. I gently squeeze the two halves of the ring while fitting it on a rail so the bar does not drop off. When it is in position, I loosen the squeeze so the clamp opens up enough to fit into the tail. Then I just tighten the base screws to gently hold the whole ring in place. This is harder than with a one-side-clamp design, but it is worth it!It is also important to note that these are steel rings, not aluminum. Despite the compact size, the Warne Maxima rings are heavier than similarly sized aluminum rings. On the other hand, steel is stronger than aluminum. I have stripped aluminum rings using recommended torque settings (20 to 22 lb-in). Not on these rings!I like these rings because of the design, precision machining and choice of material. Being made in the U.S. is icing on the cake. I know I will purchase more Warne Maxima rings in the future for all my scoping needs!

Warne rings are very sturdy, steel.
Used for mounting a scope on a high powered rifle. Has worked well and not moved or shifted.

Savage 111 + Boyd Stock + Nikon Prostaff 3-9 + Warne Med = Perfection
Every rifle, optic, and rifleman is different, and choosing the perfect scope + rings can be surprisingly difficult. The rings have to be high enough to allow for bolt and barrel clearance, which depends on both the rifle and the optic. But mount the scope too high over the bore and your point of aim can be negatively affected. For most applications, you want the scope as close as possible to the bore, while allowing for enough clearance. All this, and you still need proper alignment with your eye and your stock. This is the real challenge in fitting a scope to a rifle and a rifleman.I'm writing this review to say that these rings worked perfectly for me on my setup. I own a Savage 111 in 300 win mag (not the chambering matters here). I mounted a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40. It has the perfect amount of clearance over the barrel and for the action. As you may know, the Prostaff line has a particularly thick housing. The housing OD is more like 50mm, so if you have a 40mm objective scope, these rings should allow plenty of clearance.I also have a Boyds featherweight thumbhole laminate stock. Sight relief and alignment is 100% perfect at my eye. The factory stock may work perfectly for you or you may add an aftermarket cheek rest.I hope this helps someone else looking for rings to fit their Savage long action rifle with a Nikon Prostaff scope.UPDATEThese rings continue to exceed my expectations. I actually bought two more pairs for other rifles. The only downside is if you want to remove the rings, you are stuck releveling the reticle which is a pain. But this should be expected with the design of these rings.I now use these medium height rings on a Savage 16 with a Zeiss HD5 50mm scope. There is only a few mm barrel clearance but it clears and is perfectly low. An ideal scope height for a long range hunting setup, in my opinion.
