OtterBox Commuter Series Case for BlackBerry Z30 - Retail Packaging - White/Gray (Discontinued by Manufacturer)

After a couple days this is my short opinion. - The soft inner rubber fits around the phone well, but alignment between the hard cover outer portion and the soft inner cover is just a hair off on the headphone jack. This makes it a bit difficult to pull the headphone jack cover open when you want to listen to music. - The soft inner cover is made of a stiffer material than the Otterbox case for the BB9780. This makes for good protection if you drop the phone. The bad is that accessing the USB, HDMI and headphone jack can be a pain as the material is stiff and keeps wanting to close back up. It is ok for the headphone jack as that inserts very far, but for the USB port it makes you worry about the long term health of the USB jack with that slight pressure always being applied when the USB is plugged in. It not a lot of pressure, but enough to make you wonder. - The stiffer inner cover material also makes it a bit more difficult to press the buttons. - When the phone sits on a desk it will slide around as the hard outer cover is slick.If you have the headphone jack plugged in the phone will spin in the direction of any slight tug on the cord. This was the best case I could find for the Z30 as I like the inner and outer case type design. If they would make the soft inner case out of material that was softer (like they use on the BB9780) and make the outer hard case material sit into the softer inner case (so it does not slide around and gives you a better grip) it would be perfect. Hopefully Otterbox will make a better version or Sediko will come out with a version for the Z30 (their Q10 case is great). In the meantime I cut off the USB cover and live with stiff key presses.EDIT: After a week with it the only thing to add is that if you use the standard BlackBerry USB charger cord, it will not fit well into the cases USB opening. The BlackBerry USB plug tip that goes into the phone is kind of chunky(thick would also be a good word,) so it bumps against the case making it difficult to plug in. If you use a USB cable with a small/narrow tip, it works well.

Love this case! Protects my BlackBerry Z30 well. Perfectly placed holes/provisions for all the speakers ensures that sound quality is not compromised. Accompanying screen protector is great - you'll forget it's there!Easy to clean, despite the white color. Even after 8 months of use, it still looks new.Would've given it 5 stars, if not for the following:- The protective cover for the micro-USB slot and micro-HDMI slot isn't large enough to provide access. I ended up having to cut the white plastic edge above the flap.- The casing partly affects the device's NFC capability. Won't matter if you don't use it that often anyway.If you're looking for a great case to protect your BlackBerry Z30, this is one of the best cases to consider.

This OtterBox case works well but still has a few flaws. The cover tabs are tight and make it difficult to open. This makes access to the charger port and headset port difficult. I personally removed the hard shell and cut the rubber tabs off. Also, the hard case is very close to the port itself. This applies pressure to your charger which will damage your charger and/or the port that the charger goes into. I cut the hard plastic above the port and this allowed the brand name charger to fit comfortably. Yes it's not perfect but this case offers better protection than most off brand cases I've used. I've also had to alter the cheaper cases as well. At least this fits and protects from minor everyday drops. Please see my photos for how I made this case work beautifully.

Z30 is a big phone and for most of my phones I go commando and don't put anything but a skin on them. Z30 I decided since I wanted to use it more outdoors and being the largest screened phone I have ever had, I didn't want to take any chances with it having issues.Several months later and I am still happy with the coverage and weight of this case protecting my phone.I recommend you clean the case with a light alcohol wipe prior to use it, seems like there is some residue from the machining process that makes it a little slippery when you first get it. once you do that it provides a good, solid combination of hard shell and rubber protection you need.

Basically the only decent box for this model phone. Worth it completely. I only gave 4 stars because after like a week, the power port on the side had plastic break off because it was flimsy. It is still quite functional. I ended up not using the screen protector because the one they give you is useless. I dropped my phone from 3 feet up onto asphalt and it was fine. Definitely satisfied.

I've always been impressed with OtterBox products in the past (9900 and 9700 commuter cases)...this one was a bit of a letdown. The opening for the microUSB charger was very tight for the Z30 cable and after about 10 charges the thin hard plastic around the opening actually snapped apart. Also when the case was on the Z30 the volume buttons didn't work reliably, if I peeled the silicone back a bit and pushed the volume buttons they worked fine -- very weird.

Case is tough and protects phone as intended. It actually gives great protection, but lids that cover the micro usb charge port, HDMI, and audio jack are easily broken after use. But what really is an issue is the fact that the case is not designed to easily allow connecting micro usb (required for charging) therefore the cover is forced and eventually broken in less than a month (on 3 covers bought in our office).

Absolutely love the case. It fits very well and lines up perfectly. Didn't trust anything other than OtterBox to protect my phone and I would buy this case all over again if need be. Only wish is that it had more in different colors due to my phone being black, not white or gray.

Positives: This case feels solid and rugged. Everything is wrapped in a seemingly indestructible shell. I haven't dropped it yet, but if I do, I have confidence that my phone will survive.Negatives: Some of the buttons require extra force to push. (this is true of most cases anyway). The case takes an otherwise elegant phone and makes it huge! Swiping from the edge bevels is an issue sometimes that you have to do it carefully the second attempt. The position of the USB slot for recharging, depending on the connector you use, requires a bit of force to insert. (imprecise design.)Lastly the back of this is so smooth that it is difficult to hold the phone in one hand. The phone is big and difficult to operate with one hand anyways, unless you have large hands. The slipperiness of this case makes it a real challenge. A stippled back would have better choice.

This case works exactly as advertised. Solid protection for the phone from drops (which has unfortunately been tested). Good access to headphone jack and US port, side buttons.Case is relatively easy to remove from the phone too (I use the phone in an arm band when at the gym or jogging for music and podcasts) and to put back on, but no issue at all with the phone getting out of the case on it's own.Only minor issue for me is that the shape of the case makes a bit more difficult to swipe from right to left to get out of the hub. I may trim the hard case a bit to try to ease that.

A good robust case. The main issue I have with this is that not all compatible chargers fit firmly through the slot of the protective cover. I have found on occasion that whilst I had thought my phone was charging, it in fact was not which can be very frustrating. The slot need to be slightly wider!

This is an excellent quality, versatile case. Perfect fit cutouts, and plenty of swipe room on edges; a much better quality case than the Z10 Otterbox case. It comes with a separate screen saver to be applied. I already had one, so didn't need to use it.

The charging ports are partially blocked and the top power button gets hung up on the phone power button holding it down. Every time you want to turn off the screen the phone ends up shutting down if you're not paying attention as the case holds the power button down. Returned the case as it was not as well built as the Defender case for the Z30
