Extremely useful device
This SanDisk reader makes it very easy to maintain a digital photo collection. Before I bought one on an intuitive whim, I had been connecting my digital cameras to my computer. What a mistake I was making. The first time I used the reader, the response was instantaneous, and the transfer speed excellent. I save battery power on the camera and time since transfer with a camera tends to be slower. Also, because the reader is so easy to use (and because I use Picasa - [...]- very intuitive photo management software), I am finding a lot more joy in phototaking, since the organization and saving process is faster. I take more digital pictures now than I ever did.One note: I even tried putting a Sony MemoryStick into the slot, and the reader was able to read the files perfectly even though the form factor of the MemoryStick is smaller; this was a great bonus.

Perfect... as long as you connect it to USB 2.0
I got fed up of waiting for my camera to upload pictures into the computer (an iMac with 3 built in USB 2.0 ports). So, after some browsing, picked this card reader.I use it to transfer SD Card contents from my digital camera to iPhoto. It works flawlessly. You insert the SD Card, the drive appears mounted on the Desktop, iPhoto launches and asks if you want to download the new content (pictures and movies). The transfer is super fast. What used to take over one hour before is taking a few minutes now.The trick is to make sure to plug the reader into one of the built in USB 2.0 connectors in the back of the computer. At first I plugged it into my (very old) USB 1.1 hub and the results were very disappointing. I ended up moving my keyboard into the hub instead. No problems. All in all, I'm very satisfied with this product.

Works like it should
I needed an inexpensive, yet reliable, SD flash card reader for my Sansa player and digital photo frame. I was toying with the idea of installing a 3.5" multi-format reader in my computer but most of the reviews here and elsewhere were very mixed. I've had good experience with Sandisk products to date so I decided on this unit. I don't bother installing the software for these types of devices. I just let Windows XP find it as a removable drive. So far it has worked just like a USB thumb drive. I also like that the SD card sticks out about 1/2" so there are no buttons to push or break. Thanks Sandisk and Amazon.

Ordered wrong
I unfortunately ordered the wrong product. I have a version of this that reads CF cards and assumed this version which reads more than one type of card would also read CF cards. My fault for not reading the fine print. The good news is that Jowow was willing to take back the items even though I had opened one package. I am very pleased with the service but disappointed I can't seem to find a SanDisk reader like this for CF cards.

Much faster than your camera or PDA for uploading/downloading data
If I use my PDA or camera to sync or up/download files it takes a long time just to fully view everything on the disc by comparison to using this reader. Up/downloading from the camera or PDA isn't really slow, but once I used this reader that was it for transferring files by connection to the camera or PDA. Using the reader, it's comparatively instantaneous, couldn't be faster.Note that I'm using a 2007 Casio Exilim and a Palm Treo 650--so it's not a case of my camera and pda being old and slow, they just weren't made to be used as drives except as a convenience.I've had absolutely no problems with this reader, or the one I had been using for years before for a different type of memory card.BOTTOM LINE: If you have a digital camera or PDA which uses some kind of removable disc memory, it's well worth the extra bucks to get the appropriate SanDisk brand reader to make transferring files more convenient and much faster. After all, you spend a lot of money on your devices and memory, so why not spend another $20 or so to have optimal data transfer and handling.

Not for Macs! Beware!
I would love to give this product 5 stars, but, unfortunately it is not compatible with Macs. So, in all fairness, it probably doesn't deserve the one-star rating, but I wanted to try and alert Mac users to this problem. I went to the SanDisk website to download a driver, in hopes that I could remedy the problem and get the device up and running. No luck. I don't think I can return the product either because it came in "blister pack" but I'll try anyway. It really bothers me when the package of a product itself has Mac icons all over it, but then has no actual compatibility or even driver downloads. So, nothing against the product itself. I like SanDisk for their CF and SD cards. But if you're a Mac user, keep shopping (carefully!).

Quick and easy
Folks, This thing is great. Simple Plug and Play, Drag and Drop. No software needed (except, I suppose, Win 98). NOTE: There is a sticker on the thing that says - STOP and install the button application first. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO THAT!! Unless you want some of the other software on the CD (or you need the 98 drivers), you don't need the CD for anything. I have Windows ME and I needed NOTHING extra to get the reader up and running. You won't go wrong with this SanDisk reader/writer.
