I dislike regular cumin but the black cumin is tasty.

The packaging can be zipped to keep the seeds fresh and the seeds tasted good.

I roasted the seeds to get that nice pecan-coffee aroma and then crushed them, then filled gel capsules to use them as natural medicinal. Look up "Nigella Sativa" (same as Kalonji) to see the clinical trials that were done in Pakistan and elsewhere.The flavor is very good in rice and coating fish, too, but only if you roast them first!

Black Cumin is used as a name for more than one spice in India. Nigella is very common in Indian cooking, but the shape and flavor are very different than the black cumin used in Jaffrey's Garam masala. She calls it shah zeera, but there are other similar names. The product image may be the best way to distinguish these two. And reviews suggest you also have to avoid buying regular cumin unless that's what you were hoping for.
