Q: there seems to be 2 USB ports, different connectors. the black one powers the bluetooth I think; then what's the silver one for?

It is there as you lose one Mobo Internal USB Header and they give you it back but it cannot be the same as a Mobo Internal USB header as it would not work so has to be an external type USB port (it is complicated but it is what it is)

Q: This doesn't show any wifi connection options, I installed the drivers and plugged to motherboard. Why is this happening?

Is the antenna screwed in to the back of the card and in a location that would allow connectivity? If so, I'd also check and see if there's an option to activate the PCI card in BIOS. It could be disabled by default.
