Learn English: Rosetta Stone English (American) - Level 1-5 Set

Grandma has been using it a few times a week. Overall it worked much better than any other similar software we tried.The speed on my HP laptop running Windows 8 is okay. Sometimes she had trouble opening the application, but for the most part it works fine.The five levels of learning are decent. I'd say their "speaking judge" can be strict - many times she had trouble getting pass a screen because the computer just did not accept her pronunciation. Grandson who speaks perfect English also had trouble getting pass it. Oh well, there is always something to improve upon.I'd way the price we paid is a bit on the high side, even though we bought it on sale. This package will get you started and teach you some very basic sentences and dialogues. Still nothing beats learning from the native speaker in the environment.If you don't have better options, try this one.

I would say the same thing as I said for the other Rosetta Stone reviews....Not knowing the language at all this program is NOT great!!!! If you have already taken a language course the first level or second then this way is a great practice and continuing on learning. If you don't know the language at all, well be prepared to get confused who the verb is referring to and have a dictionary next to you. It's also not worth the price.

Bought this as a gift for a Filipina. Her only complaint with this was the assumption that the native speaker knew Spanish and was learning English. That should possibly have been clearer in the advertising.

Even though we were pleased with the content it is a nightmare if you want to switch to another computer, reinstall the software and continue from where you left. After some time we spent trying to figure it out how to deactivate the product and activate it on a new one, it worked fine for a few weeks but then we started getting warning screens asking for registration code and then when entered the famous minor error 8111 (as we later learned this happens frequently) and the levels we passed are all gone. We tried many times, asked for support, many weeks and months passed but no solution. We managed to continue using its online version on our ipad but then our time expired and we were asked to renew the online subscription but we were not willing to pay another considerable amount for just one year so we went back to the activation problem. Tried again, asked for support but no progress. Software updates also did not make any change. Anyway, I recommend that you buy this only if you are considering to install it on one computer and plan to finish the lessons as soon as possible. They should definitely change the way the software operates and protected.EDIT: RS Product Support kindly approached and helped us to solve the problem. As we have guessed, it was not easy for ordinary users to solve the problem and by remotely accessing our computer, upon our permission, and with the touch of an expert hand the problem is solved and now everything seems to be back in order. Thanks to the support team.

My daughter, who is severely dyslexic, was in the full French Immersion Program in our school system. Because of the nature of the program, she studied only French words. We moved her to English this year and hoped the English Rosetta Stone would help prepare her for 3rd grade English. Rosetta stone helped with her pronunciation issues which have plagued her since pre-school but has not helped with word recognition. It was a shot in the dark but worth a try. In the past we have purchased Rosetta Stone French, Spanish and Chinese. I think it is a great program and can work wonders with a little effort. The Chinese version, which I did not buy from Amazon, was scratched so we only got through the first lesson. It starts out with practicing sounds rather than words. I would recommend Rosetta Stone to anyone who has employees who speak another language or those wishing to travel abroad. It was $70 less on Amazon than on base.

I bought this product for my young kids. It is very useful for kids. It explains detaily and has fun. My children love this product. Also it delivers very quickly. I strongly recommend this product. If you want to improve your English, you should buy this.

Great device for learning English! I bought it for my mom and it's easy to install, easy to use, and most importantly, easy to learn! You hear the words, you say the words, you do it all ! It's been outstanding, the only drawback is the price. It's a bit steep for those who wish to learn, and after about 2 months, you have to begin paying for the online service that they provide. I think a great substitute for Rosetta Stone would be Duolingo, considering it's free. But if you want a more in depth experience, definitely get a Rosetta Stone.

I bought this for my wife, who is Chinese, and who has struggled with some aspects of English for the last five years. Her vocabulary is good, but her writing and reading were weak. We've tried other computer-based courses, to mixed results, while classroom courses tend to be most effective. So, when this was on sale, it was time to try it out on her.The results were good. Although she had most of the vocabulary, knowing that probably helped her with the lessons about reading and writing more. She's worked her way through most of the 5 levels, and her English has gotten better. It hasn't been smooth sailing: she had some trouble picking up the software process from the start, and got frustrated when it would loop back to lessons she'd tried and did OK on (but not great) in the past. She didn't realize that the repetition was of those modules she didn't do well in, thinking instead the flow was more random (leading to some annoyances). It's hard to argue with the results, though. Her English writing and reading is considerably improved, while her spoken English is better. I don't think she would have made the same progress without a background of classroom lessons in English, but as a supplement RS was a good buy. It does take dedication and perseverance to get through all the levels, but there's no easy solution to learning a language. (As someone trying to learn Mandarin from scratch using RS, with no background vocabulary, I can attest that the learning curve can be immense for a total neophyte, and that's despite knowledge of six languages already.)I am not sure I would have bought this at full price, but when on sale, I am glad I made the purchase. And my wife's improved English shows that this did help her, in the end. Whether she would have done as well just using RS alone, I can't say for sure, but I doubt it. As a supplement to other methods, though, this is worthwhile.

It's a good program for learning a language... it does have its shortcomings, but it's still a good one. I got this one to help a girl I dated in Brazil so that she can learn English, and it's giving her a good head start.

I am rather disappointed. There are 5 levels but in reality the whole set is for beginners. It does not show naturallyspeaking everyday conversations but even on the highest level lectors use artificially pronounced words and sentences. There is nothing about intonation, reduction etc. Maybe I expected too much?

C'est un logiciel parfait, je l'utilise pour moi et mes 2 enfants et nous apprenons beaucoup. Ce logiciel est très encourageant et simple à suivre!
