Optimus F-1030-a 10-Inch 3-Speed Personal Fan, White

It's small enough that I would call it a "personal fan."It has no hinges, so I put a slipper under the front of the fan to tilt it back a bit, and I put the other slipper behind the fan to keep it from completely tipping and falling backwards.If my lady is comfortable but I'm feeling hot, I can point the little fan at me without it blowing on her, so then we're both comfortable, as long as she stays on her side of the couch. That was my intended application for this fan, so between cooling me nicely and being verrry quiet, I give it 5 Amazon-stars. If it makes me a little too cool, I can just turn the fan away from me a little bit.I may tip it back at a 45 degree angle just to mix some cold air on the floor with some hot air at the ceiling. The fan is quiet enough that it's not a problem doing that, but it might be too low-powered to really mix up all the air in the room. As air-conditioning season gets closer, I plan on putting it under the wall-air-conditioner and pointing the fan upwards to help mix the cold draft better than the AC does on its own. Without the fan, the AC points at my lady, wouldn't ya know, which is a problem; I hope the fan keeps the AC from blowing directly at her.On Low setting, I can't even hear the fan during the day, but at I can hear it whispering at night. Compared to the refrigerator's motor, this fan is quieter, of course without any of the lower-frequency components to its whooshing. There's a Medium setting, which is approximately the same as the Low setting. And on High, it's just a little louder than Low; it's still really quiet consistent with it being reeeally low-powered. But if I'm pointing the fan at myself, then Low is enough, so no reason to notch up the noise, no matter how little.I paid about fourteen buks for it, and since it's a an bare-bones plastic wonder, I don't think I'd want to pay any more than that.

Before I purchased this product several reviews said this is the quietest fan they have ever owned, I think these people are either hard of hearing or they had the fan on the carpeted floor. When I first turned this fan on I was imagining a silence that would just be quieter than a whisper. I was shocked when I heard how loud it is, especially after reading those crazy reviews. I have my fan set on top of my television entertainment center. I have put padding under it to compensate for the loud noise and it has lessened the sound (once the tv is on the noise is hardly noticeable). This fan is neither louder nor quieter than any of the big fans out there, it probably sounds exactly the way a fan with this size motor is supposed to sound. I still love this fan. It looks great, I like the shape. I like the sturdy base with the protective non slip pads under it. I do wish the slowest speed was a little slower because it still seems like too much wind at that slow speed. The first and second speed are similar and there isn't a lot of wind difference. The 3rd speed is stronger and puts out a good amount of air. I am quit happy with the product overall.

I've had this fan for over one year now and have had nearly no problems. It receives extremely heavy use from me as well - I need a fan by my face each night to sleep, so it's getting an average use of 7 hours/day.The one (and only) problem I had was I accidentally pulled the speed dial off once, but it just snapped back in. (It was entirely my fault too, I was sleepy and was trying to turn it the wrong direction...whoops!)The fan is extremely quiet. It gives off the pleasant white noise "hum" that I need for sleeping but only at close distances and at max power. I lived in a dorm room with two roommates who were not bothered at all by the noise and said they could hardly hear it from less than 10 feet away.There are 3 different power levels. The lowest speed is virtually inaudible while the highest is still very quiet for the amount of air the fan is blowing. The highest power blew enough air around to keep me cool without air conditioning throughout my school year in the middle of Illinois (90 degree + days).Overall it's a durable, quiet, and effective fan. I had never heard of Optimus before but this is definitely a quality product.

Fan works very well. It doesn't walk around when in use. I'm able to sleep with it without distraction.

I'm what you'd call a "power user" when it comes to fans. I need a fan on constantly because I like having the noise. Because of this, I just keep my fans on all day. Also because of this, I've very sensitive to the noises/sounds the fan makes. So, take this review with a grain of salt because I'm much more picky with my fans than most people might.I bought this fan because I couldn't find a different Optimus fan that I loved. Thought since it was the same brand, I would like it just as much. And initially, I did love it! The sound was great and didn't make any weird noises. However, after about 3 months of use, it started making these weird noises, like something was rattling around. It sounds silly, but it was kind of like a dripping faucet - it's not really a big deal, but all you can focus on is that one weird sound. So, after a few months, I ended up having to replace it (I actually found the original fan I was looking for!) for every day use. I still have it for when it gets hot out (you know, like what fans are meant for), but didn't really get the use of out it I needed.

I wanted a quiet fan for my bedroom, and this one fits the bill. It's quieter than I expected, even after reading the other reviews. Even on the highest setting, it's still not loud.It is not the most powerful fan in the world, and no replacement for a good oscillating fan, but if you want just a simple, stationary fan that doesn't make much noise, this will work for you.I have it in the bedroom and use it at night. The noise doesn't keep me awake, and the light breeze keeps me cool in the summer. It's also very slim, so it doesn't take up much space (less than a standard oscillating fan would) on top of the dresser. Plus it's lightweight and easy to pick up and move - no heavy fan head to tip over or throw off the center of gravity.At fifteen bucks, I couldn't be happier with this purchase!
