The Miatec Bug Zapper and Fly Swatter eliminates pests with a simple, one-stroke swat or swing. Whether you're barbecuing, picnicking outdoors, or clearing the air of bugs indoors, this racquet-shaped tool will rid the air quickly and safely with no spray or liquid residue. The Miatec Zapper disables the bug via electric shock, thus dispelling use of any chemicals. This is safe for the user, for the environment, and prevents mess. The trapped and neutralized bugs can be subsequently discarded in the trash can. The Zapper employs a discreetly placed activation button to function; thus it is child-proof and tamper-resistant. It is lightweight, maneuverable, and easily cleaned. The Zapper is made of sturdy material. Its electric function is guaranteed to perform optimally at all reasonable temperatures and weather conditions. It works on 2 AA batteries, which are easily replaced. The electric zapping action that disables the bugs is barely felt by the user. However, the Zapper is a tool and not a toy. Therefore please exercise caution when using it.

Effective, didn't set my curtains on fire. Awesome!

Update: It's been over a year, and I still am using my racket. I don't need to use it super often, but when I do, it makes short work of whatever flying or otherwise unwelcome thing has graced me with its presence. Lately I've been taking to bringing it into work. I had a mosquito about a week ago that had been munching on me for a couple days and I just could not seem to destroy with my bare hands. I brought my racket in, and started telling my coworker, "If you see that **** mosquito--". Well, he said, "It's right there," and I whacked it, and that was the end of that. My coworker hadn't seen one of these in action before and was surprised it actually worked. He's still really tempted to get one, and I'm tempted to get a second one for the office. Problem is, I want the exact model I've got, and now they're mostly rechargeable ones. Bleh.I bought this thing to deal with mosquitoes, but since the zika scare, the gubmint must be doing something, as I haven't been bit in months, and usually I get bit on an almost daily basis, even in our mild winters. Nonetheless, some winged things have periodically found their way into my den, and when I don't want to rescue them, I pop the batteries in this thing.First off, it will definitely work without the batteries, once charged, at least once, and pressing the button is really only helpful to tell that your batteries are working. I can't say yet how fast it goes through them. I've been keeping the batteries out of the unit just in case something accidentally triggers it, but I feel okay leaving them in at this point-- just needed a safe place to put it, really.Even small insects like gnats are fine. I was a little startled by the initial zap, as it was louder and a little brighter than expected. I thought, shoot, I'm going to set my curtains on fire. Nope! It was okay. Larger insects may either still be alive or be twitchy even after a few zaps, but they sure as hell will be stunned, which is the important thing. I haven't tried it yet on anything as large as a wasp, but I'm sure that with adequate contact, it should do the trick. My favorite thing is that I don't really have to be accurate overall-- I can just kinda swing and bat the thing around, under the curtains, on my furniture, wherever. You'll know immediately if you hit something. There is a bit of a smell sometimes after using, and I think it's more with the smaller insects, because of the extreme current going through them, and more or less making them explode. So you will get a weird, mild but pervasive burning smell. It didn't bother me, but if you're whacking a lot of tiny bugs, it might be overpowering.

like one of the others displayed on Amazon

Product was not as shown, has plastic lightning bolt in the center, like one of the others displayed on Amazon. However, product works fine, just like ones I've used in the past, just be sure to keep zapping a few times when you catch a bug, as it'll just stun ones the size of horseflies. Fair warning, it will make a loud popping noise when you hit one, and every few seconds as you hold it down. Also, be careful with it, because hitting objects with it will activate the power (like setting it down hard on a surface, or hitting the racket on something, it is cheap after all).

It doesn't do that great a job with regular flies either

I bought this to take care of a fruit fly infestation around our composter. This is not powerful enough to kill fruit flies. They just get stunned and then fly away. It doesn't do that great a job with regular flies either. It was cheap, so I should have expected it. Like other commenters have said, once you press the button the screen stays live for a while and is protected by outer plastic webs. Not necessarily the safest with little ones around. It doesn't make that clear in the product description.

Fun and Effective

Got this for my husband as a kind-of gag gift but it's turned out to be one of his favorite things when we're RVing. Bugs in the RV drive him absolutely crazy and this seems to be entertaining for him, at the same time giving him a sense of taking care of the issue. I'd buy it over again.

Slows down bugs for a couple seconds. Kills them? No

Worthless. I bought this zapper for the many wasps and carpenter bees that like to hang out on my porch. It made the zapping sound and knocked them down, but after a few stunned seconds, they could fly away. Unless you want to be stepping on the insects to actually kill them, I suggest you skip this one.

Stopped working 4yr later

Piece of junk. Doesn’t work anymore. No idea why not. Fresh batteries, no visible damage, clean electrical contacts.

Bug Doom!

Come closer evil yellow jacket to seal your doom!Seriously though; I really am a lover of all bugs except yellow jackets and hornets. I have another bug catcher that I also bought here on Amazon so that I can set the harmless bugs free.I am allergic to bee stings. They don't kill me; but usually require a Urgent Care visit.Last summer whilst sitting on my porch, minding my own business, neither eating or drinking, just enjoying the day, I was approached my a wicket yellow jacket who immediately, and without warning or provocation stung me on my hand. Next day trip to Urgent Care for antibiotic and other medicine for largely swollen and purple hand - like a balloon. And, I now have an epi pen, as my allergies seem to be getting worse. So, I saw one of these here on Amazon and bought it - not this type - but one like it. It was great. I did not even have to swat the bee. If it just touched it, it would fry it. But, sadly, it did not last long. So, I went hunting for another one like it; hoping for a bit better one and liked the way this one looked with all the criss cross as my old one just had single layer of straight rows; and got this one to try.I have not had a chance yet, to try it on an evil yellow jacket; but did try it with a piece of pepperoni that my husband threw my direction and it was like one of those really large bug zappers going off - sparks, zaps, and smoke - there was nothing left. This thing is powerful, so be careful. Here is the other thing - I have not had a problem with it staying on all the time (as another reviewer stated and explained in their wonderful review) - but I was holding it and it started arcing on its on, without the button pressed. It only did it twice, but made me concerned.

Great fun for the entire Family!

Pretty good bug swatter, fun for the whole family! Forget stories and s'mores by the campfire for todays family! Best you get everybody one and play bug-ball!*note, this one is NOT strong enough to take down a pissed off yellow jacket . . . it will buy you some time but you still better be ready to run or follow up with something bigger!
