Amazingly quick delivery as I expected the book to arrive a few days after today. As well, being a used book, there were only signs of bent corners on the cover and a possible liquid mark leftover from a water accident. Otherwise, this was a great purchase! Very happy!!!

Got this for my classical mythology class this past semester. It was a great bargain, and I was able to read the book with no problems. There were some integrity issues with the book itself, such as there being black wire tape to repair a rip on the back cover of the book, and there being some pencil marks and highlighting in the book. Overall, though, it was used often during my class and helped me get a decent grade in it.

The author graduated from Berkeley and Harvard, yet somehow a quote from Aristotle's "Politics" is dated 1252 BC (for reference, Aristotle lived around 384-322 BC). It's a little like saying Columbus discovered America last year. There's also a few political leanings in the book that probably shouldn't be in a scholastic text (a reference to Frank Miller's "300" and his quote disparaging the Arabic world after Iran banned the movie is a notable example).Unfortunately, I'm only partway into the book and I haven't gotten to the actual myths i.e. the meat and potatoes of the book. But with some of these egregious errors and political leanings, the rest of the material is going to be highly suspect in my mind. If by the end of it I am completely blown away by its awesomeness I'll reconsider my review.Edit: Nope, book was not awesome.

Definitely recommend for myth and classics lovers.

It is an excellent book. There are detailed descriptions of myths, very good illustrations and explanations of the mythical content that is reflected in other cultures. I used it to great advantage in my university studies.

More beat up than I expected from a rented book but did it's job.

I rent this book for the new semester. This book's condition is not really good. The bottom left corner was damaged. Looks like it has been used for a long time with many wrinkled pages. (I am saying this just to prove its original condition prior to my rent)

This book was bought for a university class and although the book is wonderful and captivating, the same can’t be said about the class lol

Pricey!!
