Survived a west Texas summer and winter in an attic!
I bought one of these to cover the immediate outside vicinity of our hunting camp. This is a remote location in west Texas where the internet signal comes in on a roof-mounted directional antenna pointed at a tower located in a little town about 5 miles away. There is plenty of bandwidth with the incoming signal, but the house is heavily constructed with thick walls and a heavy 22gauge steel/copper roof. The wifi router inside the house doesn't have the juice to get outside the house.I followed a Youtube video and set up the unit as an access point with it's own network name, un-encrypted, (we're miles from the closest neighbor), and max power output. I placed the Picostation high in the rafter peak of the main house. I can't imagine how hot it gets in that rafter space... 150*F would probably not be out of the question. Unfortunately, the signal would not penetrate the thick steel roof and we had no signal outside the house... it was a gamble. However, I left the unit up there and the system running for an entire year, and when I came back to the camp a year later, the unit was working perfectly. Strong bars anywhere inside the house and within about a 20-30ft outside the house, but the signal dropped immediately upon getting outside the slope of the roof-line. I have no doubts about the performance of the unit, I simply rolled the dice. In my spare time at camp this year, I ran a CAT5 cable through the attic and laid the groundwork to penetrate a wall of the house facing our barn. I have no doubts that we'll be up and running next year at camp when I finish the product. I'm tempted to keep the Picostation at home with me and play around with it here in the neighborhood, and buy a directional Loco M2 (much cheaper) unit to shoot the signal into the barn at camp. I gave up on 360* coverage around camp due to the logistics of penetrating the peak of the roof and am settling on just "the barn", which is where 99% of our needs are, and I only have to thread a line through a small window frame on the side of the house. First world problems.

The PicoStationM2HP is a fantastic product. Don't get discouraged by other reviews that state that it is hard to setup. It literally took me 15 minutes to setup. There are numerous videos that show you step by step on how to configure it or them if you are using multiple units. It took me longer to drill a hole through my wall and then mount it outside. You can mount it in a window but it does reduce the signal strength. My windows are doubled glass and instead of screen it has another glass so I chose to mount it outside. I set it up as a access point with it's own SSID. I needed to connect some ip cameras around the property and this was by far the cheapest way to do it. My furthest camera is about 540ft away (football flied and a half) and I had full strength bars on cameras and multiple smartphones. I didn't test how far away I could get because I didn't feel like walking through the weeds in my field. Buildings will reduce or block the signal so two units may be needed to get around structures (harder setup when using multiple units). I setup inside the house first before putting outside and when it was inside my whole house I had full strength which I don't with the expensive router that I hooked it up too (using one of it's lan ports). I also have the larger NSM2 units and I get about 5 miles between units and they are about the same price as the picoStaion but they are much harder to setup and getting the line of sight at that distance is difficult and easier with two people or more helping. I would recommend these units to anyone that has enough skills to setup a wireless router in their house and have enough skills to do a search on the internet to find the instructional videos. I would suggest using the ones on youtube rather than the Ubiquiti website or blog. Those videos are made for professionals and their lingo may confuse whereas youtube it is general users sharing their way to set them up.

Great product
Great range even from inside the faraday cage like barn. I'll be buying the same brand for a longer range line-of-sight link to an outlying barn. The thing performs flawlessly.

Terrible Product. DOA
Terrible product. Died right out of the box. Runs extremely hot (normal per Ubiuiti), no wifi signal out of the box. Interface is clunky, firmware upgrade doesnt help. Rarely saves changes and randomly reboots during setup. Complete failure.Ubiquiti forums state this is flawed tech, there are better options. should have looked there before purchasing.Customer delayed install, so now im passed returnable date so Im out $76.00 and half a days work.

Worked well for 4 years, but the hardware died this morning.
Worked for 4 years. This morning it died almost to the day of being 4 years old. No storms/lighting, just working and bam, it was dead. The LED's started to get dim, it felt warmer than usual and the wireless network disappeared. This was installed inside my house in an air conditioned space. Normally if I have a wifi problem, this is the last thing I check because it so reliable, but it is dead now. I have a backup Ubiquiti power supply, and it is indeed the picostation that is the problem, not the power supply. This is the first piece of networking equipment I have had just die due to hardware failure in many years, but at least it worked well while it was alive.

It works great..
Bought the Picostation with the hopes that I'd be able to extend wifi to the guest house next door and further out into our acreage. It works great...I have it mounted temporarily on the eaves of the house and I have a signal over 150 yards away on the other side of a barn. Can't wait to see what it does at its permanent install site 30ft high! It seemed a bit intimidating, but there was really no need to worry. I followed the instructions I found here on Amazon in one of the other answers to a review or question and it worked perfectly. There are plenty of videos on youtube detailing setup as well. Btw: you don't need a crossover cable for setup - a regular cat5 network cable works just fine.

Just what the garden needed
I wanted to have access to my home broadband while sat in a summer house in my garden, some ~30m from the router. I didn't want to run an ethernet cable from my router through or over the garden; also there is no mains power in the summer house so I couldn't see an obvious way of setting up a point to point wireless link. What I wanted was a wireless access point connected to our router that could then be mounted on an external wall, and provide coverage across the garden. The PicoM2-HP appeared to have this capability, but I was a little skeptical about the ranges claimed, given it is so very small; at least compared to wireless access points I've used in the past to improve coverage inside houses. The unit is very neatly made and is tiny, just 2.5 cm square in cross-section and ~ 40cm long with the aerial fitted. It comes with a Power over Ethernet injector, wall mount and some clips. Only basic instructions are provided with the unit, set up guides are available from the Ubiquiti site.Fitting it was straightforward, and although it comes with a neat little wall mount, I needed to mount it on a 'J' mount to avoid an overhanging roof. One observation, the entry hole into the unit for the ethernet cable is very small, at least if you are going to use external grade cable which is around 6mm in diameter, so I had to open it out with a drill.Setting it up as an access point was very simple, just a few typical stages on its admin pages to set its IP to static and to set the wireless parameters. The only bit that was not so obvious was to disable the Airmax function (a Ubiquiti protocol used by Airmax clients I believe).I've not tested the full coverage distance possible but I have used an Ipad running the BBC iplayer while sat approx 60metres from the unit. A quick Ookla test gave me 15Mb/s down and 10Mb/s up at the same distance.

Good AP using it for live sound to connect a digital mixer to ipad. However, extreamly tricky to set up in the begining, but once you get it you get it.
