Q: I have a 13 Jeep Wrangler w/ rear mounted standard tire what lengh do I need to clear tire, 8?

It should. Our 2011 Wrangler has wider tires and rims. I purchased the 8" extender from Curt. Actually the extender installed is about flush with the outside of the tire. All extenders are measured from hole to hole. I don't know what your needs are for it. I could of bought a longer one but I just didn't want my bike rack hanging out to far. If your not sure just measure from your reciever pin hole to the outside of th tire to get the extender that will work for you.

no threads, made to slip into a 2 inch receiver

I think everybody is misunderstanding the OP Q. Is the small end of the extender (the part that slips into the vehicle reciever) made from solid 2" bar stock, or is it hollow tubing?

I bought the 18" for three bike rack and it works well, even with towing a boat.
