Great Emergency or Hiking/Camping Rations
I got these for hiking as well as for emergency use. Pros: - Freeze Dried - Tasty - Just Add Water - Packed With Vitamins, Protein, Minerals, and More - Good Caloric Intake Per Serving - 25-Year Shelf Life - Soy-Free - Gluten-Free - No Artificial Colors - No Preservatives - No Artificial Flavors Cons: - Want More What you get in the package: - 1 x Canister of NUTRIENT SURVIVAL Triple Cheese Mac - 1 x Plastic Lid ThisCanister of NUTRIENT SURVIVAL Triple Cheese Mac product has been prepared with ALL 40 essential nutrients your body needs to heal, defend and perform. Each serving gives you 25% of most recommended daily value of 14 vitamins, 13 minerals, 9 amino acids, omega-3, omega-6 and fiber. The product comes freeze dried in a metal canister with a reusable plastic lid. What I liked about this product is that it has a great shelf life. Standard for most emergency rations but still nice to be in the industry standard. The canister opens much like a big can of soup. So be sure to have a can opener in your stash to make is easier on yourself. I weighed the product in the canister and on the label it states that it contains 650g. In my testing, I received 657g which converts to about 1lb 7.2oz. Thanks for not being stinge NUTRIENT SURVIVAL. I wanted to test this out in sort of outdoor or emergency use. But it was too rainy to do the testing on the trail today. So I performed my testing indoors. But the same outcome should result. I cooked the Triple Cheese Mac with my Goto hiking stove and 750ml cup. Per the directions for one serving, you use the following: - 1/3 Cup of Water - 1 Cup of Triple Cheese Mac Instructions are straight forward .. Per the label, you bring the water to a boil and add the Triple Cheese Mac. You stir, cover and let it stand for 5-7 minutes. What you get is a small portion of Triple Cheese Mac that is quite tasty. It isn't what my mother makes. But it is good, edible and light weight enough to carry on a backpack. Obviously, not the canister ... but a supply pouch works great. It does have a nice flavor and the pasta is small and thin. So to avoid it turning more into a mush ... make sure to take it off the heat to stand. Or you will be scraping it off the bottom of the cup. With my setup the water came to boil in less than a couple minutes so I had a serving in 7 minutes flat, if not, just. hair less. Most of the time is taken letting it stand for 5-7 minutes. In my testing, I performed this 3 times and found that 5 minutes was sufficient for 1 serving, but you need another minute or so for 2 servings. NOTE: This product reports that it is Soy and Gluten Free. However, per the label, it is manufactured in a facility that processes Tree Nuts, Peanuts, Soy, Wheat, Dairy and Fish. So there is always the chance of getting trace amounts of these for those who are allergic. I was unable to locate any warranty either in the product information or item description. I received this product in exchange for an honest review. All in all, IMO this is a great survival ration. In emergencies or on the trail, affords you a small taste of the good stuff. It is packed with vitamins, minerals, etc What's more is it tastes and smells good as well. It's a snap to make and so light weight that you will barely notice it in your pack. Did I mention the 25-Year Shelf Life ... This product is made in the USA.

Holy fantastic mac and cheese, Batman
Okay, wow. For food meant to last a quarter of a century, this mac and cheese is some tasty stuff. Though the directions call for only water, adding a pat of butter really ups the yum factor. (Granted in an end of the world situation butter probably won't be around, but hey - use it while you have it.). This mac and cheese is simple and fast to make. Boil the water, add the noodles (cheese is already mixed with them), stir, cover, and let set five to seven minutes. That's all it takes for a filling and quite healthy meal. This product isn't as calorie and fat packed as MREs, and it does require an outside heating source whereas MREs have their own heating element as part of the meal kit. I have to say that this product is a lot more palatable than probably half (or more) of the MREs I've tried over the years. My husband is retired military, and has eaten hundreds of MREs over his 25 years of service. He also agrees - enthusiastically, I might add - that this triple cheese macaroni is a really good meal choice. It doesn't turn out pasty or grainy at all. The pasta is nicely chewy and the cheese sauce is very good. Each serving provides a decent amount of necessary vitamins and minerals as well. In an emergency situation this will provide needed nutrition, though it is light in calories. MREs do a better job of delivering the calories a body needs for a survival situation, especially when a person is expending significant energy. But if you are in a situation where you are sheltering in place and don't need to expend that much energy, this is an excellent product. Adding in fresh (or dried) vegetables and a protein turns this into a complete comforting and hearty meal. Unfortunately once you open the can, it's no longer got the 25 year shelf life. If you don't plan to eat this within a few weeks, you will want to choose an option to package and store the remaining product. If you have a vacuum sealer, you can divvy up into separate portion packs that should last for quite awhile as long as the seal is solid and the bag doesn't have any punctures. This method also makes it easier to take this on camping/hiking excursions rather than trying to carry the whole container. Just write the basic directions on the bag with marker. If you have any of the storage jars that can be vacuumed sealed, those work great as well. Honestly I don't know if you could put these in glass canning jars and do the boiling bath method to seal the jars, though that might be an option to repackage the product so that it has a long shelf life. Cost-wise this is a pricier product than others such as Readywise or Nutristore or Mountain House. Shelf life is about the same as the rest. Nutrient and taste-wise is where this is a better product as it beats out more than a few of other brands we have tried. Unless you flat out told someone that this was from a canister of emergency foodstuffs, most people would assume it was from a box but something you bought at the local grocery store. This is another one of those times I wish Amazon let us do half stars as this, taking price into consideration, is a four and a half star product.
