Q: Any reason this won't work with a larger (79") TV? The VESA pattern works and the weight is <165 lbs.

While the weight limit and bolt pattern may match, the one difference I see between this mount and ones rated for larger Tv's is the wall side of the mount. This one has a 2.5 inch profile, whereas higher rated mounts have a 16" wide profile with more screws. I haven't tested it, but would imagine if the tv were at full attention to the left or right it may snap the screws if it were too large (too much leverage on such a thin profile with 3 mou ntikmg screws). But if the tv stayed straight out from the wall As long as the weight limit is observed it would work fine (at own risk) the arm is certainly strong enough.

Q: Will this mount fit 24" studs?

My mounting plate is only 19" wide, so no. You could make a second mounting plate with a sheet of 3/4" plywood, attach that to the 24" studs and then mount the TV mount to the ply wood. Extra work, I know but just an idea. This TV mount is solid as a rock and for the price, I haven't found better.

Q: Can the arm assy be repositioned (left/right) on the wall bracket before mounting to wall?

The arm is a part of the mounting hardware. The bracket that attaches to the TV can be slid right or left giving about 5-6 inches either way from center.

Q: can you mount this to a brick fireplace?

I would go buy some Brick mounting lags and insert sleeves, from any hardware store or even Walmart first, but yes with the proper lag bolts and a drill capable of making the necessary pre-drilled holes in the brick you should have no problem mounting it to brick.
