Nice watch, nice step tracker
I bought this watch/tracker to replace my FitBit Flex after the second band cracked and needed to be replaced. I thought it would be good if I was going to wear a strap on my wrist that it tell the time. And since we enjoy snorkeling and were about to go on a trip where we needed to be back to the boat in a specified time this would be great, being water resistant to 50 meters. Yes, meters - not feet. And it looks stylish.Of course when I got it I had to wear both my FitBit and the Activite Steel to compare step counts. The Activite was counting significantly fewer steps than the FitBit over the course of a day. So I walked 1.5 miles around the neighborhood and counted my steps. Then I walked to the grocery and back, counting steps. The Activite was within one percent of my manual count. I think the FitBit counts more random movements as steps. This is not necessarily a bad thing, because it takes energy to fidget in your desk chair too. So should that be counted as steps? Should the calories burned reflect the number of steps only, or should other movements count too? Don't we get a base level of calories per day just for living? It's not a simple question to answer. So, my advice is don't wear two trackers! You will notice you are not getting your "normal" daily steps, but again this is neither good nor bad. It just is. After a month or so I accepted my new normal levels and all is well.A pleasant surprise was the Health Mate software. I like how it displays my periods of light and deep sleep. It seems to agree with how I feel upon waking up. It also tracks swimming and running, but within limits. Like you have to run for 5 minutes for it to agree that you were running. And counting swimming strokes doesn't work for me in our home pool because again, you have to do the stroke for enough time for it to believe you ae actually swimming. Unfortunately, it takes a 50 meter or 100 meter pool for it to count. Too many pauses to turn in out 10 meter pool I guess.

I am delighted with this purchase
I am delighted with this purchase. My delight is based in part on use of an LED watch/tracking device that worked very well for several years. However, the LED on that watch was difficult to read during the day in sunlight. The step counter did not seem accurate. If I stopped while walking my dog, it discounted the ten to twenty steps before or after my stop, I suppose interpreting those steps as something other than steps, i.e. random hand movements. That other watch took several toggles to get to desired information, e.g. switch from steps to time, to calories to how many more steps to reach my goal. This seems like a small deal, but after several years of toggling, it got annoying as I never seemed to be at the right information display. And the other watch needed to be recharged every three or four days or all of the information was lost. The Withings has a nice analog display that is easy to observe time. The step counter is easily seen without having to toggle through several different displays. The step counter seems to be more accurate than my previous device and the Healthmate software is very good, tracking time, sleep and showing periods of inactivity. The Withings alarm also is great, set from my iOS device, it vibrates enough to easily wake me from sleep. The watch band is aesthetically appealing and comfortable. The visual profile online makes it look thicker than it is, it looks very much like a regular watch on my wrist. It also looks very nice on my wrist. I have two minor criticisms: 1) the hands have no luminescence so you can't see the time without ambient light; 2) I miss having a second hand to watch portions of minutes pass. After all that, I'd buy this again without hesitation.

A clean, elegant activity tracking watch.
The Withings Steel watch is similar in design to the Garmin Vivomove and the Timex Metropolitan. These are analog watches that connect to a smartphone app to track activity. All three watches are of a design that lets the user track their physical activity while wearing a watch that doesn't have a techy or nerdy design. The three watches have a quartz analog movement combined with a connected Bluetooth system that syncs with an accompanying app. The Withings watch is slim, light and comfortable on the wrist. The quick release straps allow the user to change the watchband to a dressier style. The dial is suited for a more formal wear having an hour and minute hands, but no seconds hand. There's no day/date readout and the hands do not glow in the dark. At the 4 and 5 o'clock position on the dial is an analog dial that shows the percentage towards the step goal set on the app. Unlike the Timex and Garmin watches, the Withings watch does not have a crown to set the hands. Instead, the hands are set thru the HealthMate app. After using the included pusher tool to push the button on the back of the watch to turn it on, pairing the watch to the app is simple. The app will show a circle on the phone's screen and swiping around the circle will cause the hands on the watch to move. Just swipe to set the hour and minute hands to 12 o'clock and the activity hand to zero and the watch will automatically set the hands to the correct time. The Health Mate app is like the app for most other smart watches. It allows for the setting of step goals, keeps track of sleep, activities and weight. On launching the app, it will locate the watch, sync the info and set the watch to the correct time. The app also allows the user to set an alarm on the watch which will vibrate the watch at the appointed time as well as about a half hour before to gradually wake up the user. I set my watch for a 6:30 am alarm and the watch will vibrate around 6am. The watch battery has an expected 8 month battery life as the Bluetooth connection stays on just long enough to sync information. The watch has a clean and simple design. It only tracks steps, sleep and percentage towards step goals on its face. It connects and syncs to the Health Mate app within about 30 seconds of app launch.Pros:Light, comfortable and slim.A simple dial arrangement designed for a more formal and dressy wear.Quick release bands allow for changing to more formal straps as needed.8 month battery life.Simple setup thru the Health Mate app.Cons:No second hand.No day/date readoutHands do not glow in the dark.

Best looking fitness watch out there. Just does the basics but does them very well.
This is a very handsome watch, and can be worn by both men or women. You can swap out the bands very easily - they have a fast-remove lever - and it takes any standard watch band so there are thousands to choose from, should you not like the ones that Withings sells. The watch is very simple and elegant. It tells you two things: the time, and how many steps you ahve taken to your daily goal. And it looks great, like a high-end timepiece. That's a big improvement over all the silly space-watches out there. The app is also excellent. It is very simple to use and setup, and gives you the information you need in a simple, easy to read format. It is very good at sleep tracking, and learns your activities easily. It doesn't do any non-fitness stuff, like show you the weather or your text messages. That's a plus for me.I would call this the most grown-up of all the fitness watches out there.

Amazed by the ease of use and simplicity
I love it. Simple as that. Does what it says. I had a Jawbone Up3 due this and it died within 6 months from regular use. I have previously purchased the Withings Smart Scale and the BP monitor. Both of these also work great. Setup was simple... I sync to my phone and my tablet. I live the simple design and the absolute ultimate... Battery is said to last 8 months. I have recommended it to many friends. As for one of the reviews below about scratches glass. I am careful with my things and I do construction. I have purchased a screen protector that is applied similar to tint on a window with soap and water. So.. Get that also if you are worried.Update January 2nd, 2018. Still going strong. Keeps my steps and my sleep. Nothing to complain about. One of the better purchases I have made...My only issue is it takes 3-4 minutes to acquire with bluetooth sometimes but its not a dealbreaker. Just leave the BT on, and check it later on and see if it sync'd. Most I have gone without syncing it is 3 days and it still delivers all the information.
