Best countertop fryer/oven
This is my favorite appliance. I hardly ever use my oven anymore, this is so much easier to heat and clean. I always cook my Thanksgiving turkey in the Big Boss, and it turns out perfectly every time - very moist and delicious. Tater tots, stuffed jalapenos, nachos, chops, burgers, veggies... I highly recommend this product.

Staying with the Boss
This is my third air fryer. As you can see in the picture, I replaced an earlier version of the Boss which stopped working after approximately 3 to 4 years of everyday use. Our family loves this appliance. Before I bought this one and looking for a change, I went out and bought a popular air fryer oven. Being skeptical that it would be better than the Boss, I unpacked it carefully so that I could repack it and return it without any problem. I'm glad I did that. I returned it that same day. As with the air fryer I returned, I found that most of the air fryers do not go over 400 degrees. I like a higher heat option. The Boss goes up to 480. I think that the big difference in performance is the halogen light. When I gave the air fryer oven (the one I returned) a test, it did not give as nice of a crisp outer texture as the Boss. It also took a couple of minutes longer to cook. In the picture the old Boss is on the left. You can see they went from a digital push buttons to analog dials. I prefer the analog, this it is a little bit quicker and easier. Another feature I like about the Boss, is that it is so easy to see how the cooking is going. Being all glass and with the halogen light cooking it is so easy to check on your food and keep it from burning. It is also easy to clean. Most of the time I just wipe it out. I also have a bunch of pie pans that I use most of the time which also makes it easy to clean: No crumbs falling down. A couple of times I have used the self clean mode which works good. The new Boss also came with a cooking screen which I love. It also comes with a nice user manual and recipe book. From one of the previous Bosses I have bought, I have a top holder which I think they should have as part of the included accessories. If I have a complaint, it is how long the last two previous ones have lasted. I hope I can get a little longer life span out of this one. However, as I stated it gets used daily and often several times in a day. I have also taken it to family gatherings to cook with when I know that there will not be oven space for my meal contribution. With the extension ring it is amazing how much I can fit in the Boss. I bought a casserole dish that fits in it that works for a large crowd. So in about 3 to 4 years I will probably be buying another. But at just over $65 it seems worth it to me. The one I bought and returned was $150 with a three year extended warranty. The Boss is a 2 year warranty. So if in over 2 years I have to buy another, I will still be ahead. With price, performance, and adaptability, I am glad I bought another.

Pleasantly surprised, food tasted great without feeling guilty about 'fried'.
I was unaware of 'air fryers' - this came up in my facebook feed as a best buy and peaked my curiosity. After some reading and looking at others reviews I ordered one. Of course prime 2 day it arrived in time for Sunday dinner. We were very impressed. After cleaning it up with soap and water we prepared dinner that night of chicken nuggets, fish sticks and string french frys - all in one cooking. So I cooked it too long (20 minutes) and the fries were super crispy (read crunchy, maybe a few a little burnt). The fish sticks and chicken nuggets were perfect. We did not have an oil mister so the food didn't get anything on it, I took a paper towel and wiped the racks with some oil before we started as I feared a tough clean up but it worked great. One fish stick stuck on one corner but that too was easy to clean off.A few things - this is heavy!! The glass bowl is crazy heavy so hang on to it, the structure appears fairly well designed as the handles are well balanced and I feel comfortable lifting it in and out of the cupboard all intact. I think I will have wished that the glass lid/dome was detachable for cleaning - the motor/lid appears to be all one unit so no putting that in water, best you can do is wipe it down. Very simple - two dials, 1 for temperature one for time (they turn easy so don't crank the timer like an old school egg timer), that's what I did and ended up with a 25 minute timer for 12-18 minute food. I put the food in at 400 (chicken was supposed to be 375, fish 400 and fires 450; so I split the difference). Lifting the handle turns it off, a nice safety feature and easy way to shut it down if you see your food is done and your timer is not.My husband commented that the food smelled good around the 12 minute mark, like another reviewer said a nice 'cooked' smell not 'oil' smell. I look forward to trying out some of the recipes in the cookbook - it was more substantial than expected.Overall I feel good about this purchase, time will tell if I would buy again. We recently downsized our 'extra' appliances (waffle makers, grinders, juicers, ice cream makers, etc). and then I go and replace it with this rather large unit - but how nice to have fried food without the oil!
