Great performing antenna; very wideband
This is a review of the NMO-72 antenna--Amazon is lumping together reviews for various models. This is a great antenna. It's short enough not to be obtrusive when mounted on a car, yet it performs very well. It is, as advertised, very wideband in both its VHF and UHF ranges. In VHF, SWR and LogMag sweeps show it resonant in the 2 m ham band and all the way up to about 160 MHz, and at UHF, it's resonant in the 70 cm amateur band all the way up to the GMRS frequencies. Very versatile.

I've used many different magnetic Mount antennas over the years for many different services, and this antenna has been the most impressive of all in terms of tunability and stability. For the 2 m and 70 cm ham bands, even at high power, the SWR is virtually flat. For UHF GMRS my SWR is around 1.3-1.5:1. Impressive!Good quality RG-58U coax, far better quality than the type of coax supplied by other manufacturers, keep signal loss to a minimum. The magnetic base is coated with a rubberized material and is extraordinarily strong, make certain that the surface you intend on placing it on is not made from aluminum. I've also used this antenna place on a large sheet pan for fixed base use, and the SWR is also very usable like that.Because I am extremely fussy about putting things on the surface of my paint, I would recommend that prior to placing the antenna, wipe off the surface of the paint with a wet clean cloth several times and then dry, and similarly do the same to the bottom of the antenna before placing it. If you remove the antenna, I place it in a clean plastic bag so there's no chance that the bottom of the antenna will pick up on magnetic particulate which could be transferred to the pain finish. This is a quality product that will deliver to the discriminating radio operator, I recommend it with confidence.

It's a compromise antenna, just as all 2M/1.25M/70cm antennas are but it appears to be an all-in-one solution.
I haven't yet purchased this model so I want to be upfront about that. Now that we got that out of the way, this appears to be a reasonably priced antenna given that it's one of a very short list that can cover 2M/1.25M/70cm without any adjustments when switching bands. My only concern here, and is the reason for the 4-star rating at the moment, is the actual true SWR across the three ham bands (don't factor in out off band results since this antenna wasn't designed a be a Swiss Army Knife of the spectrum). Us hams only need to be concerned about in-band performance. For those who listed figures, please specify the model antenna analyzer (or SWR meter) used. Some of the MFJ models can show false high readings in certain situations. Also make sure there is a sufficient ground plane so the antenna works as designed. I have a Comet CA-500 MKII and that analyzer is rock solid in almost any test. I believe the MFJ-269(C) has been improved however the initial model was known for inaccurate readings in some cases. Also, don't stress over getting a 1:1 or even a 1.2:1 SWR. The radio should be able to handle up to a 2:1 SWR, especially given the lower forward power. If pushing 100 watts or more then a lot more reflected power is coming back into the rig and if using one with over $1000 invested then it probably would be advisable to get no higher than 1.5:1 if not <= 1.2:1. For 20-25 watts a 2:1 (max) should be fine especially if you will only use it a couple hours at most here and there during commutes or traveling (I've been licensed 21 years and this advice was given to me by Elmer friends who have been operating since the 1970s).This is a convenience antenna and it seems to offer that at a reasonable price so don't hesitate to buy one just due to a few bad reviews. If concerned, pick up a cheap SWR meter and leave it hooked up in-line so you know for sure if within acceptable limits.I'm thinking about getting the new 5X3 and running that into this as an easy to install (and hide) tri-band for the van. As many know these days most vehicles just don't offer much mounting space so that with a battery eliminator may be all I need to have access to all three bands with the added benefit of hiding it to avoid theft or possible damage from the insane internal vehicle heat that occurs in the SE US during late spring to early fall. Sure that's only 5 watts but in many cases that's sufficient for repeater work and the radio, antenna and base can be had for around $150 which is in the same price range as a Kenwood or Yaesu 2M only mobile. If I do decide to pick up the package then I will update this review with my personal measurements and operating observations.73 and stay radioactive!

Great quality
It is designed for both amateur radio and general communications use, featuring a strong build that can withstand outdoor conditions. With a 2m/70cm dual-band frequency range, it delivers good signal reception and transmission quality, making it a popular choice for mobile operations. The antenna is easy to install and offers a decent balance between performance and convenience, although it may not offer the same high-end performance as larger antennas. Overall, the Nagoya UT-72 is a reliable and affordable option for radio enthusiasts who need a portable antenna solution.
