Sweet Nothings: Handmade Camis, Undies & Other Unmentionables

i love how detailed this book is when it names fabrics to use for the projects, the amount of projects in the book is very nice too. and the directions for constructing them are so clear and easy to understand even for me even though i'm just a beginner at sewing.

First off I want to say that I do like this book however it just didn't wow me like I was expecting. The pictures are nice and instructions detailed and informative but the patterns are my big gripe. Some of the patterns came on paper but are printed double sided, so you've got to copy them before you cut! Other patterns are just in the book and you have to copy them then enlarge them to use them. The garments featured are cute but I expected more variety. Also some of the styles I like don't even have an actual pattern just a lame "go to the store and buy a vintage garment then sew it to another garment" WTF! Aggravating to say the least.Overall its a nice flip through kind of book but your not going to get much else from this book.

This is a great book for learning how to sew up some quick unides or other undergarments. Though I wish more of the patterns were sized a little larger it's still possible to make these patterns if you're not a small gal. Great book to get started with.

Haven't made anything yet from this book but I really like the way things are so clear and the styles. Tres chic!

I had high hopes for this book, and I have to admit that I'm disappointed so far. Other reviewers have already mentioned having to copy the patterns, but I'll mention it again: the patterns included in the book's back pocket are printed on both sides of the paper, so they require tracing anyway. (If your sewing room is already equipped with the materials to do this, then it may not be an issue for you.) Many others are printed on the book's pages, requiring you to go to a copy shop and enlarge them. Personally, I don't care to have the men who run my neighborhood Kinkos know what kind of undergarments I wear. I was also disappointed to learn that some of the "patterns" whose pictures I liked were not constructed from scratch. Instead, there are instructions on how to alter a slip by changing it's length or adding embellishments, or how to tack a lace doily onto a store-bought bra and panty set. These seem more like arts and crafts projects than sewing, and it counters one of the main reasons I sew--to create garments that fit me better than what I can find in a store. Although I've enjoyed flipping through this book for inspiration, it is not what I expected, and I wish I would have spent the money on a couple of patterns that I knew I would use.

My wife really wanted to like this book, but it just disappointed. In a nutshell, this book gives instructions for making a select few pieces of lingerie. Much to my wife's chagrin, the cutest pieces in the book were NOT included in the instructionals. They were background items worn while modeling the featured piece. If the book had instructions on all of the pieces worn, then it would be a great buy. As it is, I suggest you look elsewhere.

Somebeautiful things in here, and really pretty feminine designs, however there is a heavy reliance on sourcing vintage slips and petticoats and modifying them to make the designs. I would recommend sourcing a sewing pattern for this type of underwear to complement the book. There are some patterns to be made from scratch though and they are really lovely.

Was looking forward to making some beautiful underwear and this is not what this book covers. The instructions for the slip on the cover says “use two vintage slips and dye them”, the pattern for some knickers suggests using a pair that fit well and trace a pattern from them!Such a pity.

Gorgeous book to look at and really projects to make. Well worth the money.

This is a very nice book, lots of information beautiful illustrations well written. I would say say it helps to have knowledge of patterns and construction if you are thinking of buying this book.Great book I highly recommend this.Michelle 😊

An sich ein sehr gutes Buch. Viele schöne und recht einfache Schnitte. Manches ist sogar ganz originell und es gibt sogar richtige Schnittmusterbögen in mehreren Größen dazu. Was ansonsten recht selten ist!Leider sind die allerschönsten Stücke (z.B. das Titelmodell) gar nicht als Schnitt enthalten. Statt dessen heißt es hier: "Suchen und finden sie zwei schöne alte Wäschestücke. Färben und bedrucken oder besticken Sie diese nach Wunsch und fügen dann die beiden Teile zusammen oder tragen Sie sie einfach übereinander.Also DAFÜR brauche ich kein Buch mit Schnittmustern für Wäsche!Ich hätte mir mehr süße Nichtse mit viel Spitze und professionellem Schnitt gewünscht. Deshalb nur vier Sterne.Alles in Allem aber ein gutes Buch für Anfänger und Kreative, die mehr daraus machen können.
