Modern Swahili Grammar

Great book on Swahili grammar.
This book emphasizes Swahili grammar with some associated activities. The first few pages cover pronunciation and intonation, but Swahili is a pretty straight-forward language when it comes to pronunciation and that is not difficult. Each letter has one consistent pronunciation just like Spanish or Japanese and there are no long or short vowels. After that, it gives a good, but brief, description of nouns, prefixes, adjectives, verbs, and tenses. There is a large part of the book dedicated to verbs and verb tenses. There is not much emphasis placed on vocabulary. If you are looking for a better Swahili vocabulary book, then you should get Living Language Swahili or Colloquial Swahili. This is not a book for a beginner of the Swahili language. You will be overwhelmed with the emphasis on grammar and how the language works with this book. This book is written by academic professors, so it is not a conversational Swahili type of material. It is very grammar focused and not for the beginner. Otherwise, it is an excellent grammar resource for the linguist.

the book is good but poor of contents and design
the book is good but poor of contents and design. as a native speaking teacher i recommend the author attentively go through other self-studying book and revise it by even redesigning it for the design undervalues the author`s level.
