I bought these to help with thinning seedlings for transplanting into the garden and for harvesting once they were ripe. They are the right size and sharp enough to do those things, but I find the lock mechanism hard to open/close if there is any dirt on them. I mean, we're working in a garden - soil and dust and mud. They work, but they're just kind of frustrating to use.

I keep several of these around the house, specifically for use in trimming back my house plants (ivy). They are great for snipping pulled threads, too.

These are great shears. They have a good feel in the hand. They cut easily and cleanly. I have tried others that just tore stems and leaves, they did not cut at all. These are impressive, even if they were to cost more I would like them, but since they were really cheap, I LOVE THESE SHEARS!!My only complaint is that the locking mechanism is stupid. However, this doesn't affect how well the shears work and doesn't lessen my opinion of them.
