Absolutely Fabulous Especially for the Price! Makes People who Hate Dealing with Litter Happier! Here's What You Need to Know
This is definitely a case of you get way more than you pay for (I mean, for $17 you're probably not expecting much - you may be hoping, but not expecting). Well, I'm here to tell you that given what it is, and what it's made out of, and the price, well, I think they should call it Genius instead of Genie (although I'm sure they are trading on the Diaper Genie craze). Here's what you need to know: - The MOST IMPORTANT thing that you need to know is after the next few things, because I'm trying to do it in the order you will encounter it. - This thing *really works*, and exactly as it's supposed to. Here is the test I put it to: I had an upcoming hip replacement, and my friend who offered to stay with me and take care of me and my house and my critters absolutely *detests* cats (I know, right?) so you can imagine how he feels about dealing with scooping litter. Now, this same friend had taken care of me and mine a few months earlier, when I broke my wrist and needed surgery (yes, in my house 2017 is the Year of the Surgery), and yeah, he really grumbled about the cat - and especially the cat box - a lot. I mean a LOT. So, in preparation for him taking care of me this time, I bought the Litter Genie, hoping against hope that it would appease him. Well, guess what? He still doesn't like the cat, but now he doesn't hate taking care of the litter! He has remarked *several* times how much easier it is with the Litter Genie! For that alone I would have paid much more than the measly $17! (Shhh...don't tell them that.) - It *really* contains the smell! Woohoo! - The scoop works *perfectly* with the Genie's orifice size. It's a pretty large scoop, so a smaller scoop would work well too. - This thing is made of plastic, so it's not going to have the precision fit and smooth mechanisms of your Jaguar. But hey, $17. So you may have to wiggle it a bit when you put it together to get it to close tightly, and to get the scoop holder to be fitted, but that is a small price to pay for how well it works. It *will* come together, and the scoop holder *will* stay on. - HERE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU NEED TO KNOW! So LISTEN UP! When you first pull the bag through and tie it off (the knot where you tie it becomes the bottom of the bag (this will make sense to you when you are doing it, I promise)), and after you close up the Litter Genie (so it's ready to go), *open the top*, pull out the trap door (this will make sense to you also when you are doing it), and *manually open up (expand) the bag so that it's wide open*!!! The act of tying the knot makes the bag crumple up all together, like it's shut tight, so i f you *don't* stick your hand in the (still clean) bag from the top, and push the bag wide open, the bag will not (or at least may not) actually open up to accept the clumps of litter!! They will stay above the trap door, with you wondering why all the great reviews, because "damn this thing doesn't really work!" It does work, but the weight of the clumps is not going to cause the bag to open wide on its own - so open it up wide before you try to put anything in there! I'm now 2 1/2 weeks post my new hip installation, my friend is still here, and he's still not only not complaining about the litter, but actually still praising the Genie (and that was even after he carried the first full bag out to the trash!)

Litter Genie standard size
Love this litter genie! Very happy with my purcase!! I use to use disposable diaper bags and each time I'd clean the litter box I'd have to being the bag out to the trash.....no more! I have 3 cats and I'm able to go 6-7 days before I need to remove the bag from the Genie. It gets a bit heavy because I go nearly a week, and I've got to wiggle the bag out of the container because it's full but the bags are strong!! Also I have not noticed ANY smell, at all! That is a bonus for sure . Three cats and the 14 foot bags last me a month. I've since changed to buying the 28 foot bags. I bought a second one to put in our camper which will make cleaning the litter box easy and convenient while traveling. My only concern is the tray that slides in and out to drop the contents of the litter box into the container, I just wish it were made from something other then heavy plastic. It has a little "lip" on the tray you slide in and out and if that brakes your going to be out of luck sealing off the contents of the bag (although I'm sure I could figure out something). Overall, highly recommend! I wish I'd bought one sooner. The bags are a bit pricey but they are great at hiding the odor and they are strong. I did purchase some "no name" brand to use in our trailer and they seem just as strong but doesn't seem to mask the odor as well as the ones by Litter Genie, so when I'm finished with them if that doesn't change I'll just buy the Litter Genie bags.

A must-have for cat owners!
Very easy to use and great for managing smell. Convenient because it doesn’t waste bags on daily scooping, and doesn’t take up much space. I’ve recommended this product to all of my friends and family with cats. Had ours for 2 years now without any issues.

Happy to have it, but room for improvement
I bought this to splurge hoping it would reduce the smell. I’m glad I found this. The design is great. It is a trash can that levers open with a second lid on top. The attached lid has an indent for the coaster/rim their special bags come in; under that is a slide out tray that lock/unlocks easily. The tray pinches the bag closed to seal off the collected waste. The second lid is a basic pop top dome. You set the second lid on the can and lift the window top to dump the dirty litter. Then the dirty litter sits on the tray that is pinching the bag closed, until you pull out the tray, letting the waste slide into the bag in the can. It even has a scoop holder you can hang from the can, it’s so convenient. . The stink is sealed inside a sturdy bag, in a can with two lids. And pulling the tray in and out is lowkey fun. The downside is if you push the tray in too fast the bag lets out a puff of air that reeks, even with the dome top lid closed. While the scoop is convenient, it’s cheap plastic that bends easily. The can gets heavy, but only has a small indent in the back to help carry the can, which makes it a two handed job to move the can. The bags have to be tied securely on both ends, and with heavy clay litter it feels like it’s going to explode open when you pull the full bag out. I lay the can on its side and slide out the bag for this reason. It also goes in a grocery bag before going to the dumpster because I just don’t trust the knots to not come undone under the weight. It’s doing its job and I’d for sure recommend it. It’s getting 4stars , and I would have loved it if it was all metal instead of all plastic.

Great product
OMG I've been sleeping on these for so long! My only regret is that I didn't get the larger container, but this works very well and is easy to use once you get the hang of it. The laundry room has never smelt better, even though we used to use a different product that had similar claims of odor control (it did not). I will absolutely be upgrading to a larger version at some point since we have multiple cats, but I wanted to try this one out first since it was on a good sale at the time of purchase before spending more money on one of the other models. The pail seems well made and durable, and I really appreciate the built in bag cutter which makes removing the collected litter very simple. As long as it's kept clean (washed out when I deep clean the litter boxes during my monthly deep cleans) it should last a long time. The litter scoop that comes with it also seems to be well made and sturdy, and also works well to separate the clumps from the loose litter.

Good System for kitties- GREAT for humans
So, I got this because it was prettier than my current kitty litter holder which works great but is seriously unattractive. The Litter Genie does indeed work but, the truth is that with that lip thing that I really do NOT want to have to clean to- this put my ugly container just ahead of it in workability. Yeah, the old one looks terrible but, on the other hand, it doesn't take expensive refills and doesn't give me something extra that I would have to clean. Since, technically I don't HAVE to have something that looks good (it's not placed out in the open), I guess the old one stays for now. So, why the 5 stars? Well, because, like I said before: Litter Genie is a great system, I just happen to have one that works just a little better FOR ME. So, that doesn't mean that it doesn't work or that it's a bad product and I refuse to dock stars from a decent system just because my lifestyle works better with something slightly different. That and, I'll admit that the off-label use that I've found for it is an absolute GOD SEND. See, I live mostly alone with the husband gone on business more often then not. Unfortunately, an injury has seriously reduced my ability to walk/stand right now and, of course, the dumpster is across the rather large apartment complex. This all means that taking out the trash on a daily basis just isn't needed (the bags just don't fill up that fast) and also, physically impossible for me. We also have no garbage disposal in the sink either. A girl still has to eat though and table/kitchen scraps do indeed happen. Well, needless to say that putting those scraps into the trash can indeed start to stink up the ENTIRE PLACE in just a few hours... Starting to see where this is going? ;) Yep. I was standing there with this actually pretty darned good storage/disposal system designed to hold in the stench so that you don't smell it that I just didn't need for the cats and a major problem with icky smelly stuff from me that I had no idea how to handle. And, thus, I did indeed intone the most infamous words in the English language: Why not? Worth a try. Usually, these words do indeed lead to disaster but, once in a while- once in a LONG while, they actually lead to something good (which is why we keep saying them) and yep, this was indeed one of those times. For kitchen/table scraps? This thing is PHENOMENAL. I LOVE IT. Now, so far, my method is to drop my morning coffee grounds in with whatever else to try to help (just in case) with odor control and I've always taken it out after a couple of days maximum but, so far, not even raw chicken bones has caused any kind of smell after a full 48 hours. Okay, granted. I haven't tried any longer than that so far for the stinkier stuff but- way I figure it? Even allowing me to wait until I get home from work the next night makes it worth the purchase because that means that I can take it out on a night when I'm not standing in front of the stove/walking around the kitchen for over an hour. :) I have also been able to put off the trash ALL WEEK with non-meat items in there and not a single whiff of stink. Other caveats is that I have only tried it with chicken bones and cooked fat from a steak so far. I also haven't tried it with fish either. Also, mentioned, I have been religiously putting my coffee grounds in there to mix with whatever else to (hopefully) help with the odor control. Finally, I ensure that there is no residue or anything on the bag above the little slider thing and don't use it for anything liquid. All that being said, so far? It's going great and I plan to experiment further as time goes on and meals create different kinds of scraps and life in general creates different lengths of time. So far though- even if it proves to be useful only in the limited factors that I've tried until now? It's proven itself a VERY useful purchase that I plan to keep around and definitely keep using.

Litter Genie
If you have a cat with a litter box, this is a must have. It allows for litter storage without any lingering smells. It is low profile enough that it is not easily noticeable until it is used. The size is big enough that it doesn’t need changed too often, but small enough that it can be easily stored. The plastic material is thin and lightweight, so flexes when opened, and makes it somewhat awkward to close but it is easy to carry, and sturdy enough when closed.

Best Way to Keep Your Cat Happy with You
I recently adopted a cat and could not be happier. However, I am really bad at scooping his litter and he has meowed at me nonstop because of it some days. I felt bad but meowed back to him "Look, I don't have poop bags and it takes a long time to walk around the block to get to alley. I will work on it." Which, let's be honest, he did not take well so he peed on the floor. I knew I needed a solution, so I did some research. I found the Litter Genie and said "Hey, I'll try it out." I have not been disappointed. Having it next to the box is amazing, and allows me to scoop the litter box more than once a day. The smell is not there, and it was easy to set up. The fact that it also includes a scoop and holder for the scoop was amazing. Why I wanted to give 4 stars, but decided against it: 1. I was hesitant about purchasing because the refills are expensive, and it was not clear how they work and/or how they last so long. They work well and now it makes sense, so I included an explanation below. 2. In order to set up, I had to open the whole thing, which was fine, except the latch to keep it closed again on the bottom got messed up somehow and does not keep latched as well as it should. I had to move it, and tried lifting from the top to move it, and only the top came with me. Its not a huge deal, but a little annoying. 3. The "refill" included is actually just the first liner pack you need in order to use it. It is a bit misleading to say it is a "Refill included" but i'll let it pass because technically it is a refill you would buy, but not an additional item to use at a later time. Buy this thing. For real. It's worth it, especially if you get the refills on subscribe and save. How the bags work: A refill is just one long plastic cylinder you pull up from the hard plastic holder, tie a knot, and pull it through the center to make a "bag". Then when the "bag" is full, you use the built in cutter to cut the plastic bag and tie another knot. Then you have more plastic to pull and do the same steps again. This is how it lasts for so long. When I read it, I thought it was just a single use bag and was like "How the heck does it cost that much?" But now I understand. Definitely worth it.

The most useful litter accessory
This has really paid for itself 100 times over. Living in an apartment, this has been a game changer. And I don't think I'll give it up when I move to a house. Contains the smell, super convenient, easy to use.. just ticks every box of what I needed it for. Buy once and then just enjoy the improved quality of life.

Very Impressed
2-month review: Works like a charm. Makes cleaning the litter box just easy enough that I actually do it every day. I was concerned about the cost of refills and the plastic waste that generated, but I feel those concerns were unwarranted. I have one 10lb cat, I scoop the litter every day, and the first cartridge lasted just over two months. The cartridge refills on amazon.ca are currently priced at $26.52 for a pack of three (using Subscribe & Save), which based on my experience so far will last six months or more. Cost per month: $4.42. I believe that is great value for the ease of use and complete lack of odour. As for environmental concerns, I think the amount of plastic used per month is actually less than using an ordinary plastic bag, because the litter can sit in the Genie until it is full. No smell whatsoever. The plastic cartridge casing is also recyclable. I am very pleased. My expectations were far exceeded. I did not expect this to be actually odourless, and it really is. I have no complaints whatsoever. Use a good clumping litter, give the Genie a quick wipe-down every now and then, and forget about the smell of cat waste. Highly recommended.
