Great value and quality
Everyone should have an enameled cast iron Dutch oven - they make braising a breeze. I researched many brands, including Le Creuset, Tramontina, and Staub. For the money, the Lodge cannot be beat. It is good to 500 degrees F and is known to have a tough ceramic coating. It is not as light as the Le Creuset, but at this size that is not really an issue, plus the extra iron should make it a bit more consistent with respect to temp. The Tramontina was only good to 450 degrees F, and since I might decide to bake bread in the over, I need it to handle 500. The Staub is just crazy expensive and offer no benefit over the Lodge - the same is true with the Le Creuset. I specifically wanted an oval oven so as to be able to better fit a good sized beef roast. At less than 1/3 the price of Le Creuset, you can't go wrong with Lodge. The color choices are very limited, but other than that it is perfect.

Lodge 7qt Dutch Oven is a great value and goes the distance
My wife is the Queen of Yum and my girth is evidence. We love this large Lodge Dutch Oven cast iron for cooking and this pot is a favorite in the kitchen tool shed. The red color on this is totally rocking and screams were in business while she’s braising the meet for a pot roast (cooked yesterday) and when that comes out of hiding in the stove, we know what’s coming out of it. yum! It looks great, the color is great, the white enamel interior is holding up well, hasn’t chipped anywhere and we aren’t even the most careful people. These are heavy pots when loaded, so it is something the wife has to call me in for loading into and retrieving from stove when it’s full of goodness. This Lodge 7 Quart Enameled Cast Iron Oval Dutch Oven is a prized kitchen tool. I’m actually writing this long after purchase and many uses. Her last delicious pot roast was a reminder to write this review, so it still looks as good as the day we bought it.

A Treat to Use in Any Kitchen
There's no way that I was going to spend the $$$ for a glazed Dutch Oven from Le Creuset or Staub. At a fraction of the price, you get a finely made and versatile cooking vessel from a company with more than 100 years of experience. From a whole chicken, to briskets to soups, our little red oven has done the job. If you've never used one, it takes some time to figure out how it will cook in your oven or stovetop. And it is not light. If your a lightweight cookware household, be prepared to always use two hands. Especially with a few pounds of stew meat! My only complaint is that the proximity to med-high/high heat seems to have altered the red color to become a lot more burgundy. I assume that this is just normal with age. Make sure you have some good silicon grips or handle holders nearby because this thing holds heat for a long time. It's not hard to clean, but TBH, it's not as easy as most of the other things in our kitchen. Just know that you will need a little more patience so not to ruin the ceramic interior or exteriors. Absolutely recommend anyone looking for a Dutch Oven to give this jem a try.

It’s heavy, but cooks beautifully!
Lodge never disappoints, heavy and durable. Makes great sourdough and pot roast!

Customer Service Saves the Day when problems surfaced with my new Lodge Dutch Oven
Loved cooking with my new oval enamel 7 quart Dutch Oven. Unfortunately 2 small pit marks broke through the enamel and formed in the bottom of the product after less than 20 uses. Have no fear…when I reached out to their first class customer service team, a new pan was on the way in less than 48 hours. I love the new replacement pan and was thrilled with the great customer service!!

Quality, Versatile, Easy Cleanup, For A Better Price. A Gift That Could Last A Lifetime!
I love this Dutch oven! The first item I made after receiving this was Julia Child’s beef bourguignon recipe and it was amazing. I seared the meat on the electric stove in this dish, browned onions and flavorings in it, and then the whole recipe in this dish went in the oven at 450 for a brief time, then the temp was reduced to a simmer for a longer period. The meat was moist and delicious. Heat transferred evenly to the parts of the dish that were not on the electric coils on the stove. All of the seared and baked-on juices were easy to clean off. (A couple of small stubborn spots were easily removed with baking soda.) I bought the white dish and there is no discoloration thus far. My second recipe was Julia’s whole roasted chicken. Again I seared the whole chicken on all sides until golden, right in this dish, and then the whole thing went right from stove top to oven, covered. Best chicken I’ve ever made. Again great cleanup, and the versatility of being able to use just this one dish is less complicated. This is a high-quality dutch oven at a better price and the oval shape fits a 4-pound whole chicken with room to spare. It would make a great gift that you could expect to have in your kitchen for a lifetime with proper care. I like this so much that I plan to purchase more pieces!

Very good value for the money
I did not experience any of the problems other shoppers have had with enameled cast iron dutch ovens. I own a round Lodge dutch oven that has served us well for many years, particularly to roast a whole chicken. Recently I decided to get a larger, oval dutch oven to see how it would serve to roast a small turkey. It worked just fine except that our (12-lb.) turkey was just a bit too tall for the lid to fit. Instead we covered it tightly with a big sheet of aluminum foil which served the purpose admirably. Our Lodge 7 Quart Enameled Cast Iron Oval Dutch Oven with Lid arrived promptly and was well packaged -- no chips, no scratches, no issues. I would guess that the other brands that cost 2-3 times more might be higher quality but for my money, Lodge serves just fine. Incidentally, I have a Lodge cast iron fry pan that I don't like much, but it isn't enameled. I recommend this model of Lodge dutch oven for utility over wow-factor. I'm not the kind of cook that would display a high-end dutch oven on my stovetop for all to see.

2 years of use, still going strong
Ok, so 2 years ago I bought this bad boy. I was looking at the expensive ones and though, hey, this ones is cheap but looks like the same thing, lets try it. It has taken a beating, we have a farm ceramic sink so it gets bumped and knocked in there all the time when we wash it. We cook in it every week, slow cooked brisket is the main dish, hence the stain on the bottom. But it is big and versatile and is great for so many dishes. If you are not worried about having a perfect beautiful looking frech made over priced art piece to cook with, then this should work out well for you. You could buy a bunch of these for the price of some other brands but 2 years on and this one still cooks our dinners!

Perfect for big sourdough loaves
I baught this 7qt DO thinking I may use it for when I am making a turkey or duck. But instead I am using it for my sourdough bread baking. It is a perfect size for a big loaf.

It chips and rusts easily
I have ordered the pot as a Christmas gift. It chipped immediately on a first use, then enamel is coming off the bottom just from sitting on the stove and the lid edge is rusting from washing it. I regret this purchase.

This Dutch oven is top quality.
We've had this dutch oven for several years now and have nothing but good things to say about it. It makes the best chuck roast. Will last a lifetime. Highly recommended.
