Awesome Little Axe
This thing is awesome. It’s the perfect size for camping so I don’t have to carry a full size axe. Splits wood with ease. It’s compact, sharp, and weighted perfectly. Love it!

Great splitting tool !
I already had the 36 inch model but wanted this smaller 17 inch Fiskars for splitting kindling. The head is a bit smaller and lighter than the longer handled Fiskars splitting axes . And that is good because I wanted something lighter . This works great - it is sharp and the way the head is designed it the wood pops apart . This is replacing a smaller hatchet I had that also had a shorter handle. No problem choking up on the handle on this if you want to not grap it at the very end - it works well . The other reason I replace the old wood handled hatchet is the head was always coming loose. This one is molded on and should not ever have that problem. I tried it on some bigger chunks of wood - not huge - it won't do that of course but it does split some medium size pieces of wood no problem . But mostly I use it inside near the stove just to make small kindling for the fire. I very much like that this is made in Finland - what can you get made in Finland these days. Most of the other Fiskars stuff is now made in China so nice that this still is sourced at their source. Great quality tool

Nice little hatchet for kindling
It’s a nice little hatchet. I use it to cut kindling and it does an excellent job. Came sharp with a nice protective case that locks the blade in place which is helpful. If I ever manage to break this one, I’d buy another for sure.

Durable design and great value
It’s amazing at splitting. The shape of the blade itself is unique and effective.

Great Mid-Sized Axe with Impressive Performance
I've been using the Fiskars X11 for about six months now, and overall, it's a reliable tool that delivers solid performance for light to moderate splitting tasks. This axe really shines when splitting smaller logs (under 10 inches in diameter) and kindling. The weight distribution and design of the blade allow for clean, efficient cuts with minimal effort—perfect for someone who doesn't want to swing a full-size maul for every job. Pros: Excellent balance and swing efficiency: The hollow, fiber-comp handle keeps the weight low while allowing for a fast, controlled swing. Durable materials: The handle is virtually indestructible, and the blade holds its edge well with regular maintenance. Compact and easy to handle: The 17-inch length is ideal for one-handed use or for those with less upper body strength. Cons: Not ideal for larger logs: It can struggle with thicker, knotty rounds where more heft or a longer handle would help. No sheath included: For the price, it would’ve been nice to have a proper sheath instead of the basic plastic cover. If you're looking for a portable, well-built axe for smaller jobs around the yard or campsite, the Fiskars X11 is a strong choice. Just know that for larger firewood splitting, you may want to size up to the X17 or X25. Still, this axe punches above its size class and has earned a permanent spot in my tool shed.

Best utility splitting hatchet.
Bought to replace a broken fiskars hatched. Having an actual splitting hatchet makes a huge difference. It splits soooo much easier and dosent stick into the wood as a thinner hatchet would. Extra length on the handle also helps with a bit more power and gives room for to hands which lends to more control. Blade material is holding up to chips and ground impacts. i leave it next to the stove and its always ready to go. And because it was relatively inexpensive and its a Fiskars im not worried about ruining it. highly recommend.

A keen blade
I bought this splitter based on reviews, price, and brand, and I am fully satisfied with my purchase. It is perfectly made -- tough, balanced, and unstoppable. The blade comes sharp, but the real splitting power is in the flared sides of the head. I thought I would be using it for cutting kindling, but I can two-hand the handle and split full-sized logs no problem. It took me a little practice, because generating the needed swing speed for splitting is tougher than with a full-length splitter (shorter handle = less advantage). Plus, given the shorter handle, a miss-hit on a log can leave the momentum-driven blade moving towards your shins (unlike a longer tool, which would hit the ground before your toe, hopefully). With the gleaming, space-age-quality hone of the blade edge, I was a little worried (and timid, to be honest) about going full-bore with my swings, but after some use it works splendidly. I have found that a slightly taller chopping block, and a bend in the knees, helps to bring the blade home true every time. Usually the logs explode apart before the splitter has fully penetrated the wood, which makes me feel like a real lumberjack. More likely, it's because I am splitting dry, seasoned wood, but that doesn't stop me from taking a minute to marvel at the super-tool I hold in my hands. Every person who I have (conveniently) convinced to try out this beauty has been impressed, and many have gone on to buy their own. The shorter handle makes this tool much more likely to fit in the trunk and travel with me if needed for car camping. As for the reviews that state that the blade cover is bulky or too big, I think it's fine. It is solid, and you can hang the splitter up with it when storing it. Maybe it's too big to carry on your belt, a la Mel Gibson in the Patriot, but this is a splitter, not a tomahawk. Plus, the latch is just firm enough to keep young prying hands at bay. With this ax, think: Paul Bunyan meets Bruce Lee, 500 years in the future, in space. This is their legacy, sent back in time to benefit mankind. If you want to split giant logs, get a longer handled version. P.S. -- wear good gloves when splitting with this hero -- the closer proximity of your hands to the log means a greater chance of wood hitting your knuckles. Trust me.
