This sliderconis an AUS 8 steel. It opens easily and locks strong. It is a lockback folding practice knife and the push lever curves down a little so that it won't cause it to close when you grip the handle.If you want to do repairs or tighten the screws, it takes T3 and T2 star bits. So, keep that in mind as the T3 and lower star bits are harder to come across.But it is a good solid practice knife with a thick sturdy, non sharp, blade.

I got this because I have an Endura 4 Wave as my EDC knife. I was taking some training classes, and needed a trainer. This worked perfectly.It's the same size and weight, and the same grip texture/surface, so it's as close as you would ever want to get to the real thing in training! If you want the Wave feature on this, you can either cinch down a zip-tie (cut off the excess) through the top thumb hole, or you can cut one pretty easily with a rotary tool (what I've done).If you're looking for an Endura 4 trainer, this is it!

It costs as much as the 'real' knife, because it is made as well as the real knife. It weighs and operates and feels exactly like the real sharp-blade knife, but you don't have to worry about cutting yourself or your training partner (if you have one) or your furniture or anything else. Beautifully made, as are all Spyderco products.

We’ll made trainer if you are studying a blade defense system. I’ve been using mine for around 3 years now and would definitely recommend it.

I had a lot of reluctance in buying this trainer as it is priced so closely to the real knife...but I felt safe purchasing it from Amazon with their outstanding return policy.This trainer is a quality item with perfect balance and smooth function. It has proven excellent as a training tool without having to allow for for differences in weight compared to the real knife. I used it in an intensive two day class, shortly after receiving it, and it functioned perfectly and did not distract from the learning experienceI would recommend this trainer to any serious student of the knife.I now understand the cost and the only thing that the manufacture of this knife saves on is the grinding of the edge, but the only reason I don't give it 5 stars is the cost...well, that and I'd like the handle better in blue

I trained with the Endura 4 Trainer today. I rolled out the Wave "punching bag" and started "cutting" on the bag with the trainer. I was surprised at the sturdiness of the knife. I stabbed and slashed with no problem with the knife. Now that I have the trainer, I found that I wasn't allowing enough blade to lead as I sliced. I would have hated to find this out in an actual encounter. The Trainer is almost the same weight as my Spyderco Kris and Mannix knives, and it's length is just a little short...to keep the point very blunt and safe.If you're carrying a Spyderco as a backup defensive weapon, I highly recommend getting the Trainer, so you can work out your knife katas without sticking yourself.
