Extech 382202 Digital Single Output DC Power Supply 18V and 3A

Check the reviews when you're looking at this listing, because the different supplies are different.This unit is solid. It's a single voltage, high current supply. The voltage and current adjustment is digital, even though it's done with a turning knob. It's easy to adjust to within .1 v above 3 volts, and that's perfect for a high current supply. Current limit works well, and it'll show you the voltage that it limits to when it's in CC mode. For testing things designed to run on nominal 12VDC power, it's pretty perfect.The only negatives are a bit minor. There's no output switch. The rear binding posts are solid, but they don't have a through hole for smaller gauge wire. For the power and quality, I think this is the best high current bench supply out there. I'm in no way sponsored...paid full price just like everyone else.

Bought this unit thinking that it would be good to have for electronic experimenting. When it arrived, I plugged it in, the screen lit up, but the lower display (for Amps) was completely blank. The power supply seemed to function fine and both the Volt and Amp control dials limited voltage and current respectively, but the amp display was DOA.I emailed Extech and got two different answers from tech support. One said I had to send it back to Amazon for an exchange (ugh, really?) and the other said I had to send it in and pay $50 to fix it. (seriously? I just bought this thing!) Neither sounded like great options, so I just sent it back to Amazon as "defective" and got a refund instead.For the few days that I did have it, I was able to make a few observations:- The control dials are kinda sensitive. It's easy to nudge the voltage control and have the voltage change 0.5 volts.- The readouts aren't very precise: 0.1 volt and 10mA increments. (0.01v and 1ma increments would be nicer.)- For example, you could dial up 2.0v, but really be at something like 2.045 volts.- No "lock" feature. Since the control dials are so "fiddly", it would be nice to be able to dial-up a voltage, then push a button to "lock" the voltage in place.All negative points aside, the unit seemed really solid. Voltage out seemed steady (although I didn't have a scope, so I can't tell you if their ripple specs are accurate or not.)I gave it 3 stars. It's a decent unit, but the design could be better. (fiddly controls? well, at least give me a "lock" switch.) Maybe I was just unlucky getting a malfunctioning display, but maybe their quality control isn't as good as it should be.

I like it, and it works very well. ...I wish the limiting circuit went up to 20 amps, as opposed to 3 amps, but it is pretty clearly stated in the product description so I can't really complain too much. I will need to get another power supply with a higher amp output. Probably an 18v 20amp model, which is a bit pricier but not too much more. Also, it would've been nice if they gave a little more instruction on operation. This was my first bench power supply and took me awhile to figure out how to set the amp limiter. ...at first it made no sense, as I could spin the amp knob and it appeared as though nothing was happening. After playing with it and searching online a bit, I found out you set the volts first, then you short the red black connectors by touching or clamping them together. Then you will see the amps on the digital display and can dial in what you need. Just me being a novice I suppose, didn't realize these things were designed such that you could safely short them like that.

It's been working since 2016, but +12V is broken now. I use it in spurts: I'l work on a project for a few weeks and use it a good bit, then it isn't turned on for a couple of months.I was using it a few days ago, using the +12V and the variable to give +12V and +9V. I powered it up the next morning, and the +12 output was 0. +5 and variable are still working.I opened it up looking for an internal fuse, but couldn't find one. When I opened the case, I wasn't impressed with the mechanical design. When I removed screws, there was often tension, and the case flexed. What this means is that instead of designing to tight tolerance, it requires someone to shove it all together and twist and push as needed. The 5V and 12V outputs, not surprisingly, are just a 7805 and a 7812 linear regulators.I'll keep using it for the variable supply, and the 5V as long as it works.

I purchased this supply a few years ago. It has worked as intended. I wish I had gone for a 5A supply though. 1A can be useful for some low power applications but it might be worth looking for a slightly more powerful unit. I use this for microcontrollers and single board computers. It works well when all I want is to power a Raspberry pi zero with not much attached.

4 supplies with digital control, current clamping, internal metering. Professional grade lab equipment. I received the supply and had it up and running in a couple of hours. there is some getting used to the functions and metering (I suggest reading the manual) more functionality than supplies costing $200 more.

This is a good quality power supply for the price. Still an import power supply, but at least backed up by an American based company with actual support. We have a number of these and use them every day with good success. Much higher quality than the "cheap" ones (just stay away from any rebranded import ones that aren't backed by a real company).

A good power supply, with useful reading of voltage and current values.It can work with its maximum capacity but for a limited time, the manual says no more than 15 minutes for 45 watts, that is 15Vdc @ 3A or 18Vdc @ 2.5A, so the value of 18A @ 3A it's not practical.I think that this power supply could come with a pair of alligators and bananas, I had to build my own connector.

No CSA, cUL or other recognized electrical approval

Seems well made and well calibrated but had a couple of issues, ships without a uk plug and no backlight on the lcd.

I love this product! DigiKey carries inferior DC power supplies (lower power and fewer features) for the same price or greater!
