Warm and real advice for artists
I am a fan of Gita Joshi's podcast because she's thoughtful, intelligent and warm, and her book satisfies for all the same reasons. Her tone is conversational and she makes things seem really doable in ways that other marketing experts don't always manage to convey. I finished this book feeling supported and motivated rather than overwhelmed.

Great Inspiration and How-To for the Independent Crafter or Artist
I had been puzzled about my next steps for my craft business. This book was timely. I have begun to totally re-conceptualize how to present myself to the world, even WHY to present myself. I am writing my story in a whole new way and I look forward to using the advice in the book to send it out there. There’s really nothing missing here. Excellent resource.

Very useful and encouraging
This was a very useful book that laid out marketing in doable and sensible way. Most books focus on how to build your insta, but that doesn't garner sales.

A great read for emerging artists
I like the book, I was expecting it to be more in depth. However there are quite a few things you can learn if you have no prior ideas of how you can sell your art online.

This book by renowned curator, art dealer and coach, Gita Joshi, is a must read for any artist interested in building their art career. Her book is succinct and chock full of practical ideas and “how to’s” for emerging and established artists. The author is very generous in sharing her insights honed over years in the international art arena.
She beautifully explains how “Artists are the best advocates of their work and need to learn to become their own agents” and this is even more helpful in the current environment.

Well written, unpretentious, easy to understand, and proper practical advice.
This is a book you may have to read over and over again. I actually made notes as I was reading it. So many art books are full of vague advice and pretentious writing, but 'Show Your Art' is a breath of fresh air. It is well written and easy to understand. And it is full of excellent practical advice - suggestions you can actually implement. It covers a pretty extensive list of subjects: how to write your artist statement and bio - in an unpretentious style (I see a theme here); marketing; social media tips; getting your studio ready for Open Studios; art fair dos and don'ts; how to make your booth look good; website advice; newsletters - the list is comprehensive.Personally I have a successful relationship with my gallery and have taken part in many art fairs, but I still found the advice as relevent to me now as it might have been when I started. This is a book not just for artists beginning their journey, but for any artist looking to improve their practice.I particularly liked the emphasis on the importantce of bringing your personality into the promotion of your art, and the constant stress on being yourself - 'write for the people who like your work'. Gita quotes another artist who tells us "don't try to impress the invisible jury of MBA Professors'. And she encourages us to speak in a way that will draw people in, rather than alienate them with artspeak. Ask yourself 'how would I say this to someone who was outside the artworld.' This is the kind of advice that is most useful. The book is full of links to excellent online resources and downloadable tips too.Making it in the artworld isn't easy but 'Show Your Art' gives you easy to understand, relatable and practical advice. Now if you don't mind I'm off to redo my entire website. Watch this space (or another space).

A well written practical guide for artists
This book is a little gem. Accessible and well written, it covers most of what artists need to know to improve their business. Each chapter informs the reader of practical steps they can take; questions like how to use social media, update their website, build a mailing list, write an artist statement and how to market their work are answered. What I most liked about this book is its clarity. The author tells you what you need to know or do in a practical way, citing real life examples, dos and don’ts. The final chapter even includes a useful to do list which can be acted on straight away. It’s a book written by an art curator for artists but it does not patronise the reader or use complicated language. The information is delivered in neat and clear sentences. The author, Gita Joshi has a wealth of experience in the art word; having studied at Central St Martins in London, she ran an art gallery and independently curates exhibitions as well as juries art competitions. She also runs an artist mentoring program and hosts popular art podcast ‘’The Curator’s Salon’’ where she interviews artists and art professionals.

Every art student should be handed a copy at their graduation
The surest and quickest way to make me leave a room is to hold up a self-help book for artists, I have an aversion to them bordering onto phobia. However in this case I do know the author, and I know her well enough to know that anything she has to say about art and the art industry is worth listening to and so I bought a copy. When Gita told me that she was writing a book I wasn't at all surprised, after all this is a woman who has run her own art gallery, is an art dealer and has her own successful podcast. What did surprise me is just how good this book is. Concise, easy to read and packed with incredibly useful and relevant up-to-the-minute information. Regardless of where you are in your career as an artist you will find this book informative and inspiring, it is a guide that you will keep referring to. Unlike the books that I usually run away from, with their 'wish for it and it'll come true' strategy, Joshi offers a real plan of action mixed with genuinely helpful and practical tips. I would seriously recommend that any art student should be handed a copy at their graduation.
