Great for getting your plants ready for the garden.
I get these little cubes every year to plant my tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, pepper and zucinni seeds in and they work great. With just a little learning curve you can learn to use them to easily water by setting them in a tray and watering them all at the same time which saves so much time over watering individual little cups. There is a pre made hole in the little cube for the seed to go into, I usually use something like a screwdriver to make it the right size for the seed I am using. It is so simple and this stuff holds a lot of water so you dont have to water all the time and it also makes it harder to overwater them. Then when they are ready you just take them out in the garden in your tray and dig little holes drop the cube in with the plastic removed and you are done. It isn't near as messy and it makes planting your veggies a pleasure instead of a chore trying to keep up with a million little black cups and trying not to break the soil off the roots. These are fast and easy to use.

Love these, they work well
So far I'm really loving these rock wool cubes, this is actually my second time purchasing them. I find that they are the perfect size (1.5") to fit in my 2 inch net pots. They have to be squeezed in just the right amount for them to fit in the net pots snuggly but without being too squished. I use them for non-circulating hydroponic veggies and they seem perfect for that. I've read that there are pros and cons with various materials to use in the net pots, but for me these seem to be the best. All I do it take a dry cube, push it into a net pot, dip it in water for a couple of seconds, then place it into the hole in the top of my bin that has the nutrient solution in it. I have the solution filled to where it covers about 1/4 inch of the bottom of the cube to start with, and I place a seed in the little hole at the top of the cube. Then I just leave it alone and the seeds have always sprouted and grown wonderfully in these cubes.

a great plant starter
My package was opened on the sides, would prefer a sealed package to protect against contaminants. But the quality of the rockwool is good. These and the root plugs are my favorite ways to start my vegetables. Success rate is high and you can plop them right into your potting medium and you're good to go. Also works well for clones. What you can do is germinate your seeds with the paper towel method, then tear one of these cubes open and place your sprouted seedling inside, tear a little part off to put over the seedling to ensure it's snug when you put the cube back together. Works very well.

Easy to use, and well worth it
These are the best thing since sliced bread. I have never had such success as I am having now starting herbs from seed. Just follow the simple 1 - 2 instructions, and your seeds will be sprouting in no time. Squeeze lemon in a bowl of water, soak squares for about 10 seconds, do not squeeze, and use as intended. I've only used them to start herbs from seed. I just sprinkled the seeds on top of my prepared squares, popped them on a leak proof tray, loosely covered them with a clear plastic bag, and placed in filtered sunlight. Within a week all seeds sprouted, and some are 2 inches tall (the dill is about 3 inches). Even the rosemary is doing well. Forget peat, this is neat ;-)

Junk
Received a bag of old, loose cubes. They barely absorb water. Avoid this!

A good choice
Been using the rockwool cubes a while now and they really perform well for me. I really like how they come individually wrapped in the sheets as that allows you to leave the wrapper on and lets me focus the root growth down (not a big issue just keeps any from coming out the lower sides of the mesh baskets where the misters might not completely cover the roots). They work great in hydroponic systems but are also pretty cool if you own one of those little indoor kitchen gardens for herbs and whatnot, you can tear off little pieces of these cubes and use them in that which is alot cheaper than buying their 'custom' ones.Advice: the ph for cubes like this is a little higher than you will want for some growing, take some water and add your ph down solution OR you can use distilled white vinegar thought I have not found the vinegar to be quite as effective. You really want the ph in the cubes anywhere from 5.5-7.0, I usually aim for 6.0-6.5 and have no issues.
