Excellent heater ... with production issues
When I received my new water heater, I found that both the gas inlet and cold water inlet male fittings on the heater were damaged/poorly manufactured, and required thread repair before the female fittings could be attached. The heater was shipped with plastic thread protectors installed on all of the 1/2" NPT male fittings, so this defect was probably present at the point of manufacture ... and may be why the heater I purchased was so heavily discounted. The technical support website for Excel did not work. and suggested, in Spanish, that I try again later. Because I have the tools necessary to fix this kind of thread issue, I completed the repairs myself in about half an hour.Once the thread issue was resolved, the heater worked perfectly. Perfectly, and except for the thread issue, this heater is easily worth its non-discounted price of $500 ... and is a far better hot water solution in our Airstream than the original 6-gallon tank heater.

We have had three perfect showers in a row - beautiful
I installed this heater in my off grid cabin. I was about to come on Amazon and trash this thing after two months of suffering though it constantly coming on then blowing out, but I finally figured it out. Put the gas flow very low, even minimum, and the heat knob near the max. Make no mistake - with propane the gas flow MUST be very low or it will constantly go out and you will have to turn the water off and on to get it to reignite. Now, finally, after two months of showers that were either scalding hot or very cold, the thing works. We have had three perfect showers in a row - beautiful. I think I like this thing

Great little water heater. Hotter than jellied fire.
It took months after buying this to get it hooked up in our off-grid cabin, but once installed the review is FANTASTIC. Plenty of pressure and HOT water from a 35 degree 1500 gallon rainwater tank out back. Was a little worried it couldn't raise the temp to 100+ in the dead of winter, but we literally had to turn the unit down it was so hot.Note: This unit is a royal pain in the rear to find the right fittings to hook it up. Maybe they use something different in China. dunno. Be ready to find an adapter.

Works great! instructions are minimal
I really like how fast it heats up the water. And I've used other tankless water heaters that were electric, they were much more expensive ones that didn't work half as good as this one.Reason I only give this 4 stars is because the instructions to install it really suck! And I can't seem to figure out why a 3/8" flare to 1/2" fip connection made by 'watts' worked to connect the propane but the 3/8" flare to 1/2" fip connector made by brasscraft doesn't fit. I was in home depot and a bunch of us were all thrown off by this. But whatever, it works now and it's really efficient.Again, I kept experiencing propane leaks, very dangerous! If you have same issue, try using a propane hose with regulator that you would normally see on a propane bbq grill to a 3/8" flare to 1/2" fip connector (made by watts). Look for the one with a stop valve.I hope this makes installation easy for you!

Finally a hot shower!!
Great Little hot water heater for my cabin. I spent the last year building my small remote cabin about 11 miles from the nearest town. Working all day in the summer heat makes one appreciate a hot shower. I tried the solar hot water bags and they worked so so. But when I finally got my cabin under roof I ordered the Excel water heater and have to say it is awesome. Attached my small 12 volt pump to my water supply, hooked up the water lines and propane tank and instant hot water. A word of advice find the lowest gallons per minute shower head you can. This little heater does a great job, but it's only 1.6 gpm. Plenty to take a shower, but it will not fill up a tub for a bath. VERY PLEASED with my purchase.

Watts P-615 fittings for water in and out.
Do yourself a favor and order the Watts Quick connect P-615 Female Connector 1/2in CTS x 1/2in FIP for the water in and out. Would give 5 stars as the heater works great, but finding water connectors that fit and didn't leak was a pain in the ***. I ordered my connectors here on Amazon. Work like a charm.

Great little on demand water heater!
Now we have endless hot water on demand. No more showers or dishes cut short. We mounted this unit under the kitchen sink. It was easy using a bypass and some pex accessories for water hook up. With our setup we can either use it with our tank or bypass the tank and use cold only. The LP gas T-compression fitting took a bit more work to hook up but is well worth the effort. Make sure you check all gas fittings with soapy water. We got this as a supplement to our hot water heater in our RV but ended up bypassing it and making it our primary use to conserve gas.I would highly recommend this to anyone that misses their long hot showers when on travel.
