Would this be suitable for keeping milk cold for a toddler? I’m looking for something to send to daycare with milk in it!

Yes. A: This is right off the product description. We use it foe my grandson and it may not stay 14 hours but it does stay cold quit awhile. My daughter has been very happy with it for her two yo. From the description: About this item Easy-Clean Lid is designed to eliminate nooks and crannies where dirt and grime could get trapped Pop-up straw features a spill-proof valve that prevents spills even when spout is open Drinks stay cold up to 14 hours thanks to THERMALOCK vacuum insulation Straw is a cinch to disassemble for thorough cleaning but stays tethered so there are no loose parts to misplace Kids enjoy an easy one-handed drinking experience at the push of a button For ages 3 and up

Is there a way to buy just a replacement lid? My son bit into the silicone spout within just a couple of months.

You can contact contigo directly and they may replace it. I know they replaced our lids when they had recall.

Is this leakproof even when the spout is flipped open?

If the spout is open, it will dribble a little. Like a teaspoon amount if left open and on its side. If it's closed, I have no qualms about tossing it in a tote

Do you have to use the straw or can the bottle be used without it?

The straw is part of the lid. The only way you could use the cup without the straw is to drink from the cup itself without the lid.
