Works as advertised, out of the box
Purchased this to transfer laser printed designs onto wood for various carving projects. The iron heats quickly, and has no problem staying hot enough to finish the project. Would recommend for similar art needs.

Excellent transfer iron!
Transfer irons are somewhat hard to find, so I was pleased to find an affordable one here on Amazon. I have a woodworking project where I transfer a cut pattern for a carving, but also have a toner transfer for a sign that goes with it. It does well with both transfers! To make it work, you first need to print your pattern, words, or whatever in reverse, with heavy toner. Then you: * Position the paper carefully. * Tape the paper down on one side so it flips open like a magazine. * Iron a small section a few inches across. * Peel the paper back and verify you got a complete transfer. * Replace the page exactly where it was (My usual downfall) and - If the transfer was incomplete, hit the same section again. - If the transfer was complete, hit a section next to it with overlap. *Repeat until your transfer is complete. When I do my part, starting with very smooth wood, it gives a complete coverage without gaps or double images. Any mistakes are purely my own as the iron is doing its job perfectly. It's pretty hard to burn the paper, though it will darken as you iron it, which makes it easy to track your progress. I'm very happy with the iron and can readily recommend it!

Good results with a little practice
This tool performed pretty much as advertised, but to achieve results closer to what I was looking for, I used it in conjunction with a standard wood burning nib with a small tip. These were done by making laser prints of some of my original art and using the tools mentioned above to transfer to wood. If using wood it helps to have a very smooth, well sanded surface. The tool does get hot as mentioned by others, but I found it fine to use if you hold farther from the tip.

Will not heat up
I bought this a while back and never used it until recently. I still haven't used it. I plugged it in and left it for 30 minutes, the end is as cool as it was when I plugged it in. I know the outlet and extension works because I used them with my wood burner with no issues. Is give a zero but that isn't available. Do yourself a favor and get a better wood burner with a transfer tip

It does it's job, but not perfect.
I recently started a new hobby of chip carving. There are so many lines in the designs that I use I was looking for an easier way to put the pattern on the wood. This tool does an OK job, but not nearly as well as carbon paper does. No matter how long I let the tool pre-heat or how well sanded my wood is there are always spots that do not transfer. This causes me to have to draw in the missing pieces. Even going at a snail's pace, moving only fast enough to not burn the paper I still have issues with spots missing. I am using laser printed images and basswood.
