Great for long cooks
Full disclosure: I bought this directly from the manufacturer about a year and a half ago. (Sorry, Amazon) I have a couple of gadgets I use for Low N Slow cooks and this is one of them. I usually combine mine with the Slow N Seer and it works really well. I just cooked some ribs in 30 degree weather and got 5 full hours with zero vent adjustments necessary during the cook. I wasn't surprised to see the mixed reviews of this product. It's sort of counter intuitive. They want you to close off all intake and exhaust vents except for the one the IQ110 is blowing air through. When I first started, I didn't trust it. I left the exhaust vent open and got mixed results. They also advise you to light about half the usual amount of charcoal you normally use to get the fire started. That also took me a few tries to get used to, again with mixed results. Finally, I did a practice cook where I actually followed the instructions. I lit just 6 coals. I closed all the vents. It ran much better than it did before but after a few hours the temperature very slowly crept up, I read the instruction manual again and learned about the adjustable intake damper settings; which is kind of an allowance built into the fan for leaky grills. I found out that a setting of 1 in the IQ intake damper locks in the temp with very little variation. So if you're looking for a really good, although counter intuitive way to control your temps for long cooks, look no more. Nothing is perfect however, and the IQ110 does have some drawbacks. First, it doesn't have a dedicated food probe. If you're like me you have about 3 of them so that's no big deal. Second, as many people have mentioned in the reviews, the probes are delicate. I have a grill grommet installed in my Weber and I think it's kept the probe out of trouble, but I'm still very careful with it. Third, and this has also been mentioned, the air hose won't take a lot of heat and will melt. Since I use it exclusively for indirect cooks this hasn't been a problem for me. Finally, the fan casing seems a bit fragile and the unit is totally devoid of any fancy bells and whistles. it does one thing-hold temp. In my opinion these are minor issues, soI have no problem recommending the IQ110.

Fantastic product! Great customer service! Had problem company solved immediately. Update. I used this past weekend. It worked fantastic! I used ring of fire method as manufacturer and others had suggested. Fyi i have been smoking and grilling for over 30 years. I currently own 4 smokers but i purchased this for my acorn kamado. I smoked a cross rib roast and chicken and country style pork ribs. It held the temp right at 250 whereni had set it. The only problemni had was caused by me. I shut the air duct to 1 and smothered the fire but opened it to 4 and it rekindled right back to 250. I'm extremely pleased at how well this works and as i learn the idiosyncrasies of kamado and iq110 it'll be even easier. Also as i wrote ealier pitmaster is an excellent company superior customer service! I love companies like this. I owned and operated a retail business for 20 years and i appreciate good customer service. The iq110 just works great. Maybe next year I'll get the one that communicates with my smartphone. Definitely follow directions and recommendations and it'll work fine for you. Also i used lump charcoal with chunks of hickory spaced in between. This was the first time I've done ring of method. Food disappeared quickly which always tells me i did it right. This was my grandson's birthday so getting it right was very important. Thanks pitmaster. Here's another update. I used this today to smoke an injected 4lb chicken. I was too lazy and somewhat curious to see if it would work the same as it did with the ring of fire. I added some lump to the basket put in some chunks of hickory on top of the pile used only 1 starter cube and lit it. Also i didn't use the stone for indirect just put it in the middle when it reached 300 which was the target temp. I connected the power to iq and just sat back. I also used my maverick temp probe which was close to the iq probe clipped on the warming grate. It exceeded my expectations and kept the temp very close to 300 the whole cooking time. I did fiddle with the air vent on the iq and set it down to 1 and set the chimney vent to 1. There was a little more fiddling with this setup than the ring of fire but very little. Hope this helps. The unit works very well. update 4/18. Today i needed to smoke some baby back ribs but due to little league opening day, grandson's game i couldn't start these til later. Put charcoal and hardwood in kamodo and attached the iq110. It didn't take long to get to temp, today is 250, and it's just doing a gteat job. I didn't have time to do the ring of fire method but it's working great. Will update as i go.

Essential equipment for much less than other temp regulators.
I purchased an IQ110 about 8 months ago at the start of the summer. I Have a Weber 18.5 WSM which I love but like some other reviewers I was using it less and less because of the constant monitoring required. While that is part of the fun of BBQing, it wasn't practical. I was skeptical of the IQ110 because of its low price point compared to other regulators and at the time there were far fewer reviews. Well, I could not be happier. I am using my smoker way more and the results are better than they've ever been. I use Kingsford blue bag set up with the minion method and have been getting great results with minimal attending to the smoker. For long cooks (over 10 hours) I have to add more fuel half way through. That's it. I did do a few things to make life easier - I always place the fan unit on a table away from the smoker so it isn't exposed to a lot of heat. I made a little cover for it out of half a 2 liter bottle so dew or any overnight showers wouldn't get the unit wet. It's worked flawlessly every time. It's been a true "set it and forget it" experience for me. If you're looking at this unit you've probably seen some of the other, more expensive offerings for temp regulators. My inner gear geek wanted to go with one of those super precise, blu tooth capable units. I am really glad i saved the money and went with the IQ. The plus/minus 10 degree range is more than adequate for BBQ. You're smoking meat not baking pastry; don't over think it. When I was checking manually every hour my results were never this good. The biggest relief is now I can focus on the other aspects of entertaining (preparing sides, making drinks, mingling with guests) and not worry about the meat. I know when it'll be ready and what it will taste and look like. Ultimately it's a huge time saver which makes having lots of people over for BBQ a lot more fun.

Works well. Instructions inadequate.
Pitmaster IQ110 for Weber Smokey Mountain I got this as a gift to use with my 18.5 Weber Smokey Mountain. It works very well. It does seem to allow a temperature swing of 10 or 15 degrees F, but that is a lot better than I can do manually. My only complaint is that it does not include instructions and the instructions found online are inadequate and perhaps incorrect. Here are some things I figured out about installation and use. There is a chrome dome that is fastened to a bottom vent of the WSM. There is a wing nut (probably not the correct term – it is spring loaded.) The wing nut goes on the inside of the WSM. I decided to leave the chrome dome in place when storing the WSM. The bolt gets corroded some during the smoke, and would be difficult to put on and take off after every use. One of the parts provided is a small plastic (or rubber) cap. Use this when done smoking to close the inlet to the chrome dome so you can smother the coals. There is a Pitmaster video showing setup. They fed the temperature probe cable through the vent. I think this is a bad idea because instructions say that the cable should not be crimped. The WSM has a rubber grommet for passing temperature probe cables through it. It is normally used for the temperature probe that you put in your meat, but it will accommodate both the meat temperature probe and the Pitmaster temperature probe. The Pitmaster temperature probe is in an alligator clip. The alligator clip won’t pass through the WSM grommet, but the clip easily slips off the probe. Then you pass the probe through the hole, then you put it back in the alligator clip. Pitmaster instructions say to close the upper WSM vent most of the way, leaving it about 1/8 inch open. This surprised me because I always kept it wide open before. But I followed that instruction and it worked okay. Some of the marketing pictures of the Pitmaster show a part that is actually a handle on the WSM 22 inch. The part is not part of the Pitmaster product.

Makes smoking a breeze
I bought this bad boy to help regulate the temp in my Weber Smokey Mountain smoker. It installed in seconds and is simple to operate, set the dial to the temp you want and walk away... It is also very versatile and you can purchase a version designed for your specific pit, it is same device, just with a different adapter at the end. The temp probe is easy to use and I clipped it onto the grill grate handle using the provided gator clip to keep it in place. The LED light indicates the status of the pit and is super easy to read since the different conditions are listed right on the device (no need to refer to the user manual). Since using this kit, smoking has become a joy, no more tending the fire, eagle eyeing the temp and trying to stay ahead of the changes. With this device is basically set it and forget it. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I would've like to see a little more thought go into setting up the device next to your smoker. It comes with a rope lanyard to hang the fan, but the WSM doesn't have handles to hang from. You can set on a table next to the smoker, but the tube running from the fan to the pit is fairly short which limits your options for placement. I know it is a small complaint, but something that could easily be corrected if they thought it through.

Died exactly 1 year later...
I bought this with along with a WSM 18.5. New to the smoker world, I needed something to help me regulate the temp on the WSM for longish smokes. This fit the bill exactly. Simple to use, mostly kept the temp on target..mostly. It was not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but it did what I wanted it to do for a reasonable price. Often I would discover a 15 +/- temp delta between the unit and my digital temp probes. (all nestled together to read the same temp in the smoker.) For what I used it for it was great, it fed O2 into the smoker at a variable rate to keep the temps more or less inline with the smoking process. I could leave the WSM for 1 or 2 hours and come back to no major surprises. Then exactly to the day 1 year later the unit died. I did not abuse the unit, I had it stored in a dry area out of the elements. I cleaned it after each use and stored it with the smoker in a cool dry location. The issue at hand was not related to the fragile temp probes...rather to the unit being stuck on "lid open" status. This would happen with or without the temp probe attached. I could put the unit in "max blow" and 25 sec later it would go back to "lid open" and stop blowing air. It literally has one job to do and that's to blow air! If it can't blow air, then what good is it. I believe the problem is with a sensor detecting airflow pressure. perhaps the airflow sensor in the body pack died. I'm not going to fuss with it anymore, I have better things to do. I would have expected better from a product that seems to be constructed very sturdy. In my search for a replacement I went with flame boss FB200. Because WIFI. Seriously Wifi monitoring with temp probs for meat and the smoker too. I would have stepped up and got the IQ130 as it was almost $100 cheaper, but I didn't want a repeat of something dying again in 1yr. So no more money for you pitmaster. Better luck next time.

I bought this for my 22" Webber Kettle Grill but use it on my inexpensive and rarely used Mater Built gas smoker without gas
Like I said my intent was to use this on my Webber Kettle but I like it so much on my inexpensive Master Built, previously propane, smoker I doubt I will ever put it on my Webber. Before installing the ICQ-110 on this smoker, I almost never used it because I either had to use very small amounts of wood chips or the grill became too hard to regulate temperature. I am not one for waking up out of sleep to restock my fire and at times prefer to cook with wood that is bigger than chips. You do have to do four things to get the Mater Built propane smoker to work well with the ICQ-110. 1. Disconnect the propane tank. Obviously, you cannot use the propane at the same time, as this could be very dangerous. 2. Cover the propane burner hole with an inexpensive piece of sheet metal. I drilled four holes in it so that it will fit flat allowing the nuts on the bottom of the Master Built to protrude through the holes. This also allows me to remove it, and protects the propane burner just in case I ever want to use it as a propane smoker again. 3. Use one of the four grill grates as a charcoal/wood holder. If you do not elevate the wood/charcoal the air flow is to limited. 4. Close the vent not in use by the ICQ-110. I have smoked just about everything I can think of with this configuration and have had stupendous results. I have cooked two Boston butts and two full beef briskets at the same time. On the Briskets I did need to separate the flats form from the points to get it all to fit but this is my preferred way of cooking Brisket anyway. With large cuts of meat that are temperature critical, such as brisket, is where the ICQ-110 really pays off. I can sleep through the night knowing my smoker is under control. The temperature does very about +/- 25° but if you ask me that's pretty darn good! By the way I have also used the Maverick Et-732 Remote Bbq Smoker Thermometer in my kitchen stove and it fluctuates +/- 10°. Other advantages of using the ICQ-110 on the Master Built over the Webber are: * I like the fact that I have plenty of room to hang meats like fish and sausage. * Adding wood/charcoal is much easier with the Master Built's coal door. * While it has less horizontal space it has more when you stack your meats on additional grates separated vertically. * I can use my Webber whenever I want to barbeque without having to remove anything.

Interesting product but NO SUPPORT
The unit seemed to operate but very slowly in reaching the desired temperature. The insert in the box says' call us for support' which I did 2 times (over 2 weeks) with no response as well as leaving messages to call me back twice - they really don't want to support this product, just sell it! The product may turn into 5 stars if they would support it!
