Once you figure it all out though it works great! Mine is cycling my tank every six minutes ...
Very hard to set up if you've never set a sump up before. More equipment is needed; Protein Skimmerw/ pump, Return pump, all hoses, you also have to buy and hanging overflow, if the pluming of the tanks isn't already there.Once you figure it all out though it works great! Mine is cycling my tank every six minutes which is very fast. I'm considering scheduling the return pump with a timer, so it will shut of for hours at a time and allow the protein skimmer to clean the water.Five stars because of the improvement in water quality of the take,

a bit small
I am building a 55 gal reef and I thought this sump would be perfect. as other reviews have said it is a bit small. the refugium area could be bigger as well as the utility box. There is barely enough room for a return and a hang on protein skimmer. if I wanted the skimmer in the sump, it would be imposible. also the down draft sleeve pipe and final baffle had been broken free of the box. it still held water so I just got some aquarium sealant and glued them back.if you plan on buying this sump, it works great! but follow the golden rule of aquariums and go one size bigger to the model 2. if I replace this sump in the future I will get the model 2 as well

this product does not appear to be of good workmanship. The edged were bubbled and not smooth ...
I received the product very quickly and it appeared undamaged on the outside of the package but when I unpacked the sump there was considerable damage to the item. It was unusable as the inlet standpipe was separated from the sump and barrier wall between the refugium and return chamber was also separated from the sump walls at the top. There was damage at the bottom of the first chamber in the form of splintering. Other than the damage, this product does not appear to be of good workmanship. The edged were bubbled and not smooth at all. One corner was sanded or filed off. The acrylic is very thin as well. I am in the process of returning this product for a refund and would not recommend it to anyone.

Aqueon 34500 ProFlex Sump - Discus Heaven
My 77-gallon Aqueon bowfront tank now holds 10 discus, fish sensitive to water condition. So, I bought the ProFlex Sump which has kept my tank crystal-clear now for months. There is very little maintenance; actually, none unless you want to fool around with the thing.I made one improvement, I think it is an improvement, anyway. I added several hand-cut filter media in the receiving tray. Every other week, or so, I take the media and wring it out in cold water. That's about it.Oh, also, I bought some extra bio-balls which I used to completely fill the middle section. After reading about the fantastic results from bio-balls I was a bit skeptical - how could a bunch of plastic balls clean water. Well, somehow (allegedly anaerobic animals gobbling up the poop and pee) it all works out and I have a great looking tank with exotic discus, lots and lots of plants (about 40 or so), snails up the gazoo (which came free as hitch hikers from the lady I bought the plants from) and something really pleasant to look when I'm bored.About the snails. These things breed like rabbits. This sump has two filter bags in the primary cell. It seems that the snails really love living in these bags because there seems to be a gajillion of them in there. All sizes, too. I guess these snails help out the anaerobic baboons in the clean-up process. I don't bother them much. Just leave 'em in there.All-in-all I am very happy with this item and I'm also very happy that I started maintaining a fish tank after a 55 year hiatus.

Happy
Love my new sump. Was hoping it would be small enough to fit under the aquarium in the stand I already had but ended up having a special cabinet made off to the side. For my size aquarium I think it does it's job well.

Well thought out, but perhaps a bit cramped in the compartments. Sliding door between 2nd and 3rd compartments does not stay put.

Amazing
This works well .Setup is easy and straightforward. The refugium section on this is much smaller than it appears in the picture but still quite adequate. Would recommend
