Korg tries hard to screw up this amazing product. But they fail.
For those buying used: While the item feels light, I'm amazed at how well it seems to have held up over several years of use. Lots of natural wear on the plastic surfaces makes me believe this thing wasn't just kept safely in its box by the last owner, yet the the knobs are flawless, pads work perfect, and every button does its simple job well without hassle. Usually buying a used product like this(a midi controller) one knob will be at least noticeably loose, tight, or touchy. Not in this case. The pads are amazing; can't say enough about the feel, the response, etc. This product would be 6 stars if it wasn't for Korg; and its pathetic user manual, along with it's even more pathetic online support. You have to do some serious searching online to find out how actual consumers set up and use this device, because Korgs website and manual are neither clear nor useful enough. After a few Youtube videos, and reading discussion threads on my DAW of choice(Live9)'s support site; I had everything set up and rearing to go. As much as i'd have loved to take this thing out of the box, plugged it in, opened up Ableton and gotten to work; the 4 hours I spent piecing together how to get the most out of the PadKontrol were well worth it when it's all said and done. Making scenes to your own preferences becomes very easy once you get it, I was able to find a free DL from a guy who created scenes for all the scales, diff samplers, chords, etc which is really nice and I would suggest trying to find a link to that file by searching Google and paying attention to the results from forum sites; you should find it easily and they work with any DAW whatsoever. Check out NativeKontrol as well and their, while not free, very cool and applicable scene presets. Don't hesitate, this blows away any pad controller remotely close to the price, and it's pads are as good or better than those found on similar but much more expensive devices.

Korg PadKontrol
This was purchased to work along with a Kontrol 49 keyboard, both are out of production as of now. This was a great price on this versatile controller and it has afforded a lot of enjoyment/use already. I mainly use it in my Reason/Record Production Studio and it performs in an outstanding fashion in that manner as a trigger/controller/drum machine. It will 'self-map' itself in Reason and that takes a lot of aggravation out of MANY procedures. There are 16 very tactile touch pads that are velocity sensitive and can be assigned a pressure release setting as well. As on Korg's Kaoss Pads there is a small 'window' that allows assignment of an X-Y axis that allows for a number of useful functions...especially flams (double beats) and rolls when being used as a drum machine. The drum machine is plain old purdy fun...there is provision for a footpedal and with a mono 1/4" momentary switch plugged in an laying on the floor you have control of the bass drum...sweeeeet! If you are looking for a controller with assignable pads and multi-functions you would be hard pressed to obtain a better candidate. I would highly recommend the Korg PadKontrol...grab one before they disappear

great pads, no software anymore
I must say those pads on this device are really sensitive and feel very expressive, same with control buttons layout and functionality. It's easy and intuitive to edit.Units looks impressive as well. The only complain I have is lack of any drum software as itused to be bundled. Korg decided not to include Toontrack EZdrummer Lite or any other drummingsoftware anymore. You get now only drivers and librarian application which are outdated anywayand you have to download upgrades from Korg site. If you don't have any DAW on your computer youwill not be able to even try out those pads and that's a shame. I use padkontrol with Sonar X1and works perfect. I take one star because of the lack of demo software, I think at least someshould be included.

PadKontrol is a s***.
i take the time for answer you because i want to now first if i was making a mistake at the time of use the product, but actulle the product is really bad, it is sold to you as a product that let you program alive sesions and come with pre recorded sesions that never work out, i try to what tutorials, i read the complete manual, but the product just make the funtion of being a midi contoller that works in any software of recording for midi implements, the only posibility that i give to can record is the caos pad that bring incorporated.i wrote in the official page of Korg for nor¡w if i was making a mistake and the answer was that i have to download the actualized version of the software, but it dosent work, and tody i dont have any solution.the specifications of the product are not what said un the manual, or Korg page or what says in the page of Amzon, they said that you can record your own sessions, but when you try to record your sessions its impossible, you just can use the pre recorded sessions, and is really hard to modificate this. and when you are giong to use the pad, you must have to reprogramm with the sessions that you have .for me its a total fraud, because for use the pad in alive sessions is not enought with the software that came with the pad, but in the manual said that you just connecting the pad, it start to work inmediatlly, but all this is a lie, beacuse you need to have sofware like ableton or logic for can start to use this in a correct way, and the software goes around 200 dollars and more, and if i now that this just work liske this, i did nor buy s*** and i would buy another midi controller that goes with my needs, and actually thats what i have to do, because now i bought the logic pro x with a cost of 200 dollars, the ableton live have a cost of 400 dolars and the midi controller that is going to make my needs have a cost of 270 dollars, plus shippment and the taxes that i have to pay for can bring it to my country, that go over 400 dollars, making around and inversion of 1000 dollars, for the needs that this padkontrol was going to made.
