Great little Uke!
We sent this instrument to a third party artist to have a scene painted on the face of the body. My daughter is giving it to one of her friends. Came out great!

Great little starter uke!
I bought this little uke for my nine year old daughter for Christmas because she has really shown an interest in learning to play my uke. It was a little plain but I dressed it up with some vinyl to make it a little more personalized for her. The strings needed to be replaced with better quality Aquila strings but mostly because I'm so picky lol. I gave it 5 stars because its a perfect little starter uke at a great price. We didn't want to spring for a nicer $100 uke if she wasn't going to stick with it so this was a perfect option. We will step her up to a nicer one if she learns how to play it between now & her birthday in June. I attached pics of before & after I did my decorations so that you could see what it really looked like. The pics on the listing are a good representation of the finish.

It is ok for the price
If you know what you are doing and you have really set your mind on an under $50 dollar ukulele (which is something I would NOT recommend for a first ukulele), the Mitchell MU40 soprano ukulele it is not a bad choice, especially if you change the strings to something like theĀ Martin M600 Standard Ukulele Strings . The stock strings make it sound kind of dull and boring, but once you have the Martin strings on, the difference is noticeable. The sound is richer, warmer, sweeter, louder and with better sustain. Even with the upgraded strings, sound on the MU40 is more on the lower frequencies, i.e., it is not very bright, but depending on the kind of music you like to play, this might not be an issue. I bought it on sale for $30, and combined with the $5 Martin strings, I know have a decent instrument for practicing and taking everywhere without worrying about ruining one of my higher price ukuleles.

Cheap tuning gears break, making this a useless instrument.
Terrible worksmanship. I got 2 days of use out of this before the teeth on the gear that tunes the 1st string broke, rendering it useless. Not worth the money, even for how cheap it is. When I looked closely, I saw that the gear for the 1st string was very flimsy and I wasn't surprised the teeth broke. The teeth on the other gears look stable, so this must be a quality assurance issue.

Best bang for your buck
I love this ukulele. I think it's the best bang for your buck that you're going to find. I buy/paint ukes often and I've bought this one probably 10 times. It's the best uke in this price range hands down.Ig @artbyamandanj
