The 65UH8500 is exceptional, mostly
I received the 65UH8500 around the first week in March. After it was unpackaged, base installed, and placed on my stand by a 3rd party delivery service, I powered it on and followed the setup instructions. It didn't take long to love this TV. I would have rated it a solid 5 if not for two problems (that some others have mentioned in their reviews). There are some other issues, but in my opinion they are non-issues that I corrected by changing settings, and these same problems are present on my different brands quality HDTV's.The main problem, that I just couldn't tolerate, is the vertical banding. It is only seen when there is background movement horizontally. It is really bad to the right and left sides of the screen. This is a real problem with sports, like golf and soccer, where the camera follows the ball in the air to the landing spot. Vertical banding is also seen with regular programming and movies with motion depending on the color schemes. It is seen generally with light blues, greens, and grays. The banding slowly dissipates once the motion stops. But like a magnet, my eyes fixate on the vertical bands instead of the subject matter. The second problem is seen during evening when the living room is dimly lighted. When there are bright objects on the screen, the LED lights are seen at the top left side of the screen. The edge light bleed is worse when viewing a panoramic movies/program where there are black bars at the top/bottom of the screen in a dimly lighted room. My non-issue complaints are for the local dimming. I just turned it off. I don’t see where it makes any kind of picture improvement anyway.Overall though the picture quality is exceptional. The colors are deep and rich. This includes regular picture quality for 1080i. The Netflix Ultra HD 4K content is beautiful! The quality of the picture and the vibrancy and range of colors is unbelievable. The lack of contrast that some have mentioned in my opinion is in a non-issue. Blacks are black and whites are white everything in-between is distinguishable. The audio quality is very good. Like my other quality HDTV’s and 4K HDTV, getting the settings to my liking really makes for a great picture. I really like the fact that the over the air channels also includes internet channels. The ease and use of the remote control is a spoiler. The 3D is passive. Unlike my HDTV that has active 3D, I don’t suffer the eye strain. The 3D quality is very good but like others state, you have to be in the sweet spots for perfection.I returned this TV back to Amazon wanting to exchange it for the same model in hopes of getting one that is without the vertical banding. Amazon was out of stock. They gave me a full refund and made it worth my while to upgrade to the 65UH9500 that they have in stock. Also in my researching, it is possible that the mishandling during the unpacking of the TV by the 3rd party delivery people could have contributed to the vertical banding problem because the banding is so predominate in the areas where their fingers squeezed the screen when they were pulling the TV out of the top of the box vertically. This may also have caused the problem where the edge light bleeds so badly. If you are considering getting this TV and it is unpackaged and installed by a 3rd party (or yourself), follow the unpacking/installing instructions closely. This just might cause better reviews. I’m awaiting the arrival of the UH9500 and if it turns out that it has the same two problems, I’ll update this review. I’ll ensure that the unpacking and installing is properly followed by the 3rd party delivery people.04/25/2017 UPDATE:I received the replacement 65UH9500. There are differences between the UH8500 and UH9500. IMO there is more quality in the UH9500. Perhaps more LED lighting and a faster processor. It was delivered by a third party. As expected, they were unaware of the unpacking procedures as illustrated on the exterior of the container. I had them look at and follow the steps. They unpacking and placement went without problem. There was no gripping and squeezing of the screen.Once in operation, with video settings programed to my liking and after a few hours of operation, I tuned to a channel that has the horizontal motion in movement with scenes where like scenes the very pronounced vertical banding was seen on the UH8500. The UH9500 has some vertical banding that is much lighter. Also the vertical bands are much thinner. They dissipate much faster. I then went and watched the same programming on my Samsung UN486350. Guess what, it also has vertical banding and is slightly worse than the UH9500. It also has clouding where the UH9500 does not, and this is on a smaller screen. In conclusion, while the banding on the UH8500 is unacceptable, the banding on the UH9500 is acceptable. I did some internet research and have to agree that with LED edge lighting, it is subject to undesired artifact including banding. Unlike the UH8500, where I had better results by leaving the local dimming disabled, with the UH9500 results are better for blacks with local dimming set to, "High". Unlike the severe upper left corner light bleed where I saw the bright LED lights on the UH8500, there is none seen with the UH9500, however when viewing in a dark room and with top/bottom black bars, there is some light bleed as expected, the glow is more pronounced at the bottom of the screen. 3D on the UH8500 was without "Ghosting". With the UH9500, where the 3D object extends out into the room, I can see a very light ghost image to the left and it disappears as my eyes focuses in on the 3D object. Regarding 3D, I noticed that some 3D content that is provided on YouTube don't work right. Even with glasses on, there is the left and right split. I decided to reverse the lenses by turning them upside down. This then provided normal 3D. I guess that some programs have reversed the 3D process.

very positive beginning
I have had this television for nearly a week. I had purchased a Samsung un65js8500 but returned it. Don't get me wrong the Samsung un65js8500(VA Panel) was a great set (excellent contrast) if you looking at it within the framework of the tv. But if you moved to an off angle even a little the picture color saturation de-graded a lot. I felt like I went from a 9 on picture quality to a 1, it was that bad. With my living room set up having a sectional sofa I just could not live with it. So a researched a lot and came across the LG-UH8500.I knew I needed a television with an IPS Panel to widen the viewing angle, since most all televisions with the VA(Samsung & Sony) would not work due to poor angle viewing, and the OLED at $5000.00 would be to much to spend. The operating system on this unit in my opinion is excellent. I love the remote, operating system on the television is very quick and responsive. All the latest is in the television, but that means nothing if the picture quality is not up to par. So now for the big picture. Hooked this baby up used RTINGS setting and I was so disappointed. The picture was dull and flat. Played with the setting for 3 days and finally came up with a picture that was very impressive. It does not have the contrast of the Samsung I returned, but I knew that and was hoping for a good quality picture and I found it. Is was not easy to set at all. Even the contrast was pretty good for a television with a IPS Panel. Keep in mind I like a picture that has some pop. Nice vibrant color without being over saturated. The Dynamic setting on this set was way to much. This is what I came up with for setting. If you have this television please give them a try I don't think they will disappoint at all. And by the way this unit up-scales 4K much better the Samsung. Really Nice. I love it. but I think I had set myself ...
I'd been waiting for this TV a long time. had to get one of the 2016 versions to make sure it has 3D. I love it. but I think I had set myself up with too much expectation. Upgraded to this from a 2012 Vizio and I have to say that the local back lighting on the Vizio had more zones, where as this is this just split vertically. so if uo have one think in one corner of the TV on a black screen, the whole strip on that side will light up and its obvious.Other than that, Love the 2D -> 3D and all the other features of the TV. the WebOS is great and fast, with the only downside that LG did not provide direct IR codes for some of the apps........which means if you are have a universal remote, its harder to program a netflix activity or amazon price video activity.Overall still satisfied.

The interface is great and the connectivity is also great
If it was not of the price, I would give it a 4. I plugged it with an Ethernet cable and Netflix and Youtube are good at 4K. The 3D effect is OK and the dual play work fine if and only if you are well centered with the screen. I was happy also that the aspect ratio is preserved (no stretching) in Call of Duty Ghost and SW Battlefront (PS4). It lag when using the screen share with my powerful laptop. My laptop mouse's cursor lag ! Same problem with the HDMI. I can play 4K movie with a USB stick in many format, but not all (see LG for compatibility).
