Even I was surprised by Fiskars 8lb Splitting Maul!
I purchased this Fiskars 8lb splitting maul for my husband back in February of 2021. My husband was skeptical at first. He's a concrete worker but in the off season he sells firewood. As a result he has used a lot of splitting mauls. So when he heard me turning into a Fiskars salesman hyping it up because I was proud of my confident decision to buy him one, he was concerned I had gotten brainwashed by some Fiskars ad. The look on his face when it arrived and he was about to swing it said he was ready to show me I had probably made a dumb decision because what would I know about what he needs for splitting wood. Swing after swing with this maul his face slowly changed. He never actually admitted to me that it is a good maul. I overheard him telling one of his firewood customers that it's the best maul he's ever split wood with. It's durability is amazing! It works so good that splitting wood became my new favorite cardio exercise. You want to strengthen your core? Swinging an 8lb Fiskars splitting maul at some dry seasoned oak not only burns the same calories as HIIT or Rucking (about 400 to 700 calories per hour) but watching the wood split is oddly satisfying and it's a good side hustle. In fact, we both like this maul so much that two years ago (it's now December 13, 2025) we started actually having little spats over who got to use it. So, I'm buying myself one because... "YES! It works that good." I just realized when I purchased the one I bought him I never wrote a review for it and people need to know how good the Fiskars 8lb splitting maul is and who could have guessed it would turn wood splitting into being my favorite form of exercise. And at 700 calories per hour whew, it's worth learning how to split wood with it for me. He can wield the chainsaw until my new Fiskars maul comes in the mail.

Wonderful tool. Helped me split rounds and logs of a hundred foot maple tree. Besides for being aesthetically beat up after the abuse, holds up well, edge is resharpened by a puck or file in no time. Grip is comfortable too.

Great axe.
The weight is different to a normal axe, but even with a limited swing it is very effective. It helped enormously to remove two deeply imbedded tree stumps. These were ornamentals at the front of our house. It cleaved the roots and allowed us to leverage them out easily. We look forward to using this for log splitting.

Love this Maul
I split several cords of wood every year. I only split with axes and mauls and I only heat with wood so needless to say I know my way around this type of equipment. I have several axes including the entire Fiskars line up of axes and mauls and all of the Fiskars axes are exceptional. Not much more I can add on top of the glowing reviews here but a few comments on which axes you should buy and safety below. The Fiskars Iso Core maul is best in class. Not only does it split large rounds like nothing else it is also very easy to swing. The design makes it feel lighter than other mauls on the market. In addition, the handle transfers all energy into the strike. The low shock handle takes advantage of the principle of conservation of energy. When you strike items any vibration is wasted energy. When this maul hits a stubborn round it lands like a thud and the handle is nearly vibration and shock free. That's easier on your body and means the hit passes the most energy into the wood.My only advice is that this maul is for people with average or higher strength and experience. This maul has the potential to hurt you if you pass through a round and aren't wearing the proper boots or have the proper swing/stance. My expert advice is that if you are new to chopping wood pick up three Fiskars axes, the small splitting/chopping axe, the X27 axe and the Iso Core maul. The reason three axes are good is because you need a small axe to clean up branches on firewood and do random chopping and yard work. Also nice for camping. The Fiskars X27 is the best splitting axe for people with some experience, strength and form, basically serious firewood users. No axe swings like the X27. The Iso Core maul is for those who chop their own rounds or for stubborn pieces. It is also a must have. The best part about having a few axes and mauls is that with some experience you can go faster than a wood splitter. Happy splitting!

Best splitting maul I own!
My son and I have a small-time roadside firewood stand so we split a fair amount of wood. Mostly we use a hydraulic splitter, but sometimes you need a maul so if you’re looking stop now and buy this one. It’s pretty heavy, which is both a pro and a con. It’s nice to have a smaller splitter for smaller stuff, but if I could only have one it would be this one. The extra weight is nice when tackling tough wood. The handle is surprisingly well balanced and comfortable. I prefer it to my wood handles, which I was not expecting. The orange part is very grippy and handle profile is perfect in my opinion. Nice balance too considering the weight of the head on this. The head profile works great on tough pieces and came sharp enough for a maul. Fair price for what you get especially compared to other options out there. Item arrived later than anticipated but no big deal to me. Wouldn’t change a thing and highly recommend this splitting maul.

Effective, good maul just not as awesome as people think it is
I've heard for a long time this is one of the best solutions for splitting wood. I finally pulled the trigger on this when I needed a second maul to supplement my existing maul. It works well and doe the job but it isn't as awesome as everyone made it out to be. It's not anymore affective than my smaller, lighter Stihl maul. I was really hoping this did a better job on knotty wood that sometimes cause multiple strokes on the stihl. But even with this one, not much better if at all. All of that and this one is much, much heavier. I could use my stihl for 2-3 hours of splitting. This one is a freaking workout with the 8 pounds. If I get an hour of splitting done with this, I definitely feel it the next day. It works but this is not the holy grail of splitters some people make it out to be.

Definitely worth it
Let me start by saying that I hate Mauls. This one makes work quick and fairly easy. I’ve got some elm that sat around for a year and this maul made quick work of it. I also have some fresh fallen red pachyderm that was super easy to split. The elm was the impressive part.I have torn my labrum in my shoulder several years ago, had it surgically repaired and was a little concerns about the weight but the 8lbs makes splitting fairly quick and fairly simple. While my muscles are a little sore, my shoulder is fine. I am a larger guy (6.4/220) so the mechanical advantage is definitely noticeable with this maul.I definitely recommend this maul!

Not light weight
Heavier than I thought but solid item

Isocore is the way
If you need a hatchet of any kind, this is the one. It doubles as an amazing hammer with great surface area, and of course is a great hatchet for kindling and even some small logs.

No te arrepentirás de comprarla.
Excelente hacha. Soy principiante en esto y no hay tronco que se resista. No muy afilada y el mango de plástico que atraviesa la cabeza metálica comenzará a dañarse con el uso ya que no es muy resistente. Para un uso no muy prolongado ya que es algo pesada.

A Great 2.5-Pound Splitter!
This splitter is exactly what you need for small jobs without bringing out a larger axe. I love it. It is the perfect weight. I highly recommend this product.
