Incense Holder: Poet Tree

Cute, but ....
Like many others I was in search of a cute / creative incense holder for my STICK incense. I don't know why it's so hard to give us stick users a good holder, something besides a bottle! In this case, I was looking for one for my (adult) son for Christmas. He loves tree stuff and Lord of the Rings, and since I couldn't find anything I liked better, I bought this one. Basically my son now has a cute tree than can be used to hold stick incense if he hangs it up just right. I read the reviews so I knew it was a gamble. I'm disappointed that it doesn't work properly, but I'm not sorry I bought it.It is really good looking, for sure. As an incense holder, well ....1) if you use STICKS: you will have to jury-rig something to hold the sticks. It's not hard, but we didn't come up with anything nice enough looking to be "happy" about the way it works. I would leave the bottom stopper off and put it on a safe heat resistant surface.2) If you use CONES: the bottom is not built properly to hold a cone or the mess it makes. It's more like the bottom of a plastic piggy bank, just made to fill up the hole. I would also caution against cones with the included bottom stopper thing. Cones get really hot. I suggest leaving the stopper off and putting the tree on a safe surface (a dish, or even tinfoil with a heat safe surface under it).

A great friend for Readers!
I think I first saw this guy on a Middle Earth post, and fell in love. I found him on Amazon, and made him mine. I ordered another as a thank you gift for one of my library interns. My mother came to visit for a few days, and as he was perched on my kitchen window sill she had many conversations with him when she did anything in the kitchen. So I got her one. Recently my cousin was visiting my mother and admired hers, so she asked me for another to give my cousin as a birthday present. This I did, and he likes his very much. We love decorating him for Christmas! His face may look a tad sad, but he gives off a sense of whimsy and happiness.

Looks great, burns poorly
We love the decorative look he adds but the little stand doesn't hold the incense sticks snuggly so they lean against the side and go out. I've added putty to the hole in the stand and this corrects that problem but brings up another problem in that the stick chokes out when it gets about half-way down. The best result I've had is to use a paper clip and hang the stick from his head. It doesn't choke out too early then and will usually burn all the way. When it is working, it looks cool seeing the smoke pour out of his mouth! With no fan on, the smoke will pour all the way down his trunk and lift off the table. Most of the time it just bellows out of his mouth and top, though.

Fairy garden decor
I bought this as a decoration for a fairy garden, and it's perfect! I can see where there could be problems using it as an incense burner, but for my purposes it's great. I have a fairy perched on one of the branches and a miniature tire swing hanging from another branch. I sprayed it with UV protection spray prior to putting it outside, and it's holding up well.

Great home decor but doesn’t hold incense well
I love this incense design but the incense doesn’t stand straight up in the tree so it always falls where it won’t burn down completely and the smoke doesn’t roll out of his mouth like I thought it would.

Real cool.
The incense makes it look like Ol' Treebeard is smoking!

Pretty but Not Functional
Functionally not worth it. Beautiful piece but it does not really work as an incense holder. The hole to place the incense stick is too big causing the stick the lean a lot- causing the burning incense to rest against the side and burn out in a matter of seconds. You can stick a piece of clay into the hole or use styrofoam like I did but because the main function does not work, 2 stars.Really cute, if this issue was fixed then it would be 5 stars
