Q: Will this allow a monitor to be mounted vertically, or is it only suited to mount a monitor to a vesa stand in the landscape position?

You should be able to rotate your monitor any way u want. remember the bracket mounts about a inch or so below the monitor so you will have to align them opposite to mount 2 monitors flush.

Q: Acer HA230 is not listed. Does this adapter fit and if not, is there one that does?

I dont know the answer, however I bought it for another Acer monitor and I'm extremely unhappy. The monitors are not stable and there is no substitute to a monitor that has a VESA compatible mount! I'm looking to get rid of the Acer monitors I bought a buy new ones with VESA mount.

For anyone else trying to figure out what to buy for the r240hy, note that the "V4 fits many models" adapter is NOT compatible without some modifications. You need to get the adapter that specifically says it is made for r240hy, which is in the dropdown on the main product page. The questions/reviews seem to be combined for these products. You want the adapter that will slide straight into your monitor, not one which will need to be screwed in.
