The war in Europe is over, but the one at home has only just begun. The Second World War is ending and throughout Britain, evacuees are returning home to their families - but not the families they remember. Like so many other women, Peggys life has been transformed by the war. Living and working with good friends, she is happier than she has been for years. Yet Peggys life is not the only one changed by the war. Her daughter, Rusty, has just returned from the U.S., where she has been living as an evacuee for the last five years. After so long abroad, her home in England has become unrecognizable. Just as Peggy begins to restore normal family bonds, her husband returns from the war, damaged and desperate to make everything as it was before. Adapted from the novel by Michelle Magorian, author of Goodnight, Mister Tom, Back Home is the story of a family who struggle to make sense of their new lives in a world irrevocably altered by the far-reaching effects of war.

Wartime England
I loved it... it was a story about the war and the affect on the soldiers and their families in England during WWII. Well acted .. I enjoyed Sarah Lancashire performance the best

I loved this film! Sarah Lancashire is the finest actress in England. It was a wonderful look at life in England during and after World War II and the part women played in it and the independence they gained by it as a result of necessity

Lovely story!
Wonderful story. The sound quality seemed muffled. I enjoyed the story, it was a rare time of life for English children to be dispersed throughout the world for their safety. Can you imagine the paper work and hoops people would have to go through today?

Moving WWII story about inner courage
Adore Sarah Lancashire in anything. Excellent story about sacrifices many made during the war, expectations, disappointments, ability to stand up to the old way of thinking. Excellent seller.

Back Home was fantastic!
Back Home was one of my favourite books as a child and after re-reading it recently, I was keen to see the TV film version with Sarah Lancashire. It does not all follow the book narrative - there are a lot of changes from the book but I expected this as films never seem to keep well to the books they are based on. However if you can get over that, and just watch it as a film in its own right, then it is a great sunday afternoon film! very heartwarming!
