This textbook challenged me to identify my own leadership style and examine how it might be holding me back. It presented more advanced leadership theories and helped me develop a new approach to leading.

This book was a great read. It was digestible, yet informative at the same time. The meta analyses, studies, and cases were interesting and applicable to real-world situations. The cases summarize other texts about great leaders throughout history and offer excellent book ideas if you are looking to expand your leadership knowledge further by reading about specific leaders.

This textbook is fantastic! It provides an array of research, as well as case examples of modern day business men and women. It is extremely well written and engaging. The personal reflection points throughout the text really helps students apply material learned to situations in their daily lives.

Once you start reading "Effective Leadership: Theory, Cases, and Applications", you won't want to put it down, what you WILL want to do is immediately start applying what you learn! Dr. Humphrey has written a book which is a pleasure to read as it is interesting, entertaining, relevant, and well written.The information Dr. Humphrey provides is immediately useful; professionally and personally. Best of all, it's all based on real people, events, and NUMEROUS evidence backed research and studies; some of which were conducted by Dr. Humphrey and/or his colleagues.The people and events Humphrey writes about are spectacular examples which drive home Humphrey's points and reinforces learning; as it allows the reader to connect these real-life examples to theories and the numerous research and studies Humphrey cites.I have 30+ years of professional work experience in both the public and private sector, and this is one of the best, most relevant and useful books I've ever read. I did not dread reading this textbook; and since I have several degrees I've had to read LOADS of them! The fact that this book is based on real people, events, research and studies provides the concrete proof I need to take this book to heart, and I plan to read this book over and over again, use it as a reference, and apply what I've learned. I'm even going to have my teenage daughter read this book, as I believe it provides essential information which will enrich her life.I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants solid, evidence based practical tips and information to help them learn to be good leaders, become better leaders;-or just be a better person.
