I recently moved the smoker to the corner of my yard and after doing several cooks having to use extension cords to light the grill, I splurged on this. It probably takes 3-4x longer to start lump coal (maybe up to 15 min vs 3-4 min vs old lighter) and I’ve learned hard way to recharge after each use. Probably not rational given the extra time needed but I am still using the wireless one vs messing with extension cords…since most smokes are 6-8 hours+ I am rarely in a rush. If you have close access to an outlet where you’d use this I would definitely recommend going with the plug in. If you are lighting something easier to start, wireless is probably more practical as well.UPDATED - stopped working 6 months after purchase

Used to use a wired heat gun, but this wireless device is more convenient.Note the first shipment came with a product that didn’t power up. I returned and received a replacement quickly no problem. Make sure to test it on arrival, and ahead of cooking day.

The tool is supposed to make starting a fire easier. There are several issues:- its battery runs out before completion of fire start- the heat is not enough and I had to use supplemental heat source- the fan function is very weak and barely can keep on piece of charcoal on set aside a complete set- the material is very cheap despite its nice packagingAfter unsuccessfully trying it on wood and charcoal, I had to return it. Very disappointed.

Great product but within 6months it will not charge!!

Pros:1. Has started the charcoal every time.2. Easy to use.3. The power cord screws / wraps back into the charging base so it's not in the way when storing.4. Chargers pretty quickly.5. Battery comes off heater for charging.6. The materials all seem very well made - the build quality is quite impressive.7. No color changing on the end after many uses.Cons:1. Battery seems to last 2 uses at best between charging.2. When sitting on the base with the tool on the battery it is very tall.

Ok I had a chef tell me how good this was, but they must of gave him one that worked- Since May 3rd Im on my 2nd unit and it doesn't work either. The first unit I had to replace a aluminum housing, the said I kept it too close to the fire, so a bought this for 22 bucks and the new one melted the first time I used it and it wasn't to close to the fire, this should be made for SS the aluminum just will keep melting. the 2nd time I went to use it the battery was bad. They make you jump through all kind of hoops for warranty- you have to send the invoice, take video's. Don't even think about wasting your money. My chef buddy was informed- read all the reviews- this company sucks!

Not great for lighting lump or pellets but works great on paper or cardboard. It is a great battery powered bellows. It's a bit bigger than I thought but it looks badass.
