Q: How do the thumb grips attach to the ps5 controller?

They fit snugly over the top of the joystick knobs. There is a lip around th cover which holds it in place

Q: Does this cover work with the oem base charger?

No it will not charge with the Sony charging station or an aftermarket station that connects on the bottom of the controller. I tried cutting a silicone case and it still won't charge. It can't connect because the silicone case is in between the the charger base and the controller charging points are just too far away to touch the charging station. There is a cut out for the factory charging ports but it absolutely will not work. You need a USB C charging station for the PS5 controllers. They don't cost much. 15 bucks. They charge the controller upside down. Easy to find on Amazon.

Q: Can it sit on the PlayStation 5 charging station without any issues?

No. The case gets in the way and it will not charge.
