The Irony of the Koolpad
One of the worst design decision I have ever seen on a product is one of the first things you notice about the Koolpad Qi Wireless Charger. The very first time you use it you will hear a loud "ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh". It sounds like a gameshow buzzer. It is loud. Like most people I planned to use this charger in my bedroom - not very convenient for someone who often goes to bed way later than their partner who is already sleeping... "ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh". The second worst design decision I have ever seen in a product is the absence of a mute button. That's right. There is now way to turn of the sound. "ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh". The irony is that this product is otherwise flawless. It exceeded my expectations in every other way, especially given the price. No more hanging wires, the Koolpad now sits on my night table and looks like a piece of black shiny plastic art. Unlike puck chargers, you do not have to find the conductor sweet spot, a truly practical feature of this product.Luckily every single person who has reviewed this product has experienced the same issue with the sound and they were kind of enough to provide a hack to get around it. Pop off the rubber feet, unscrew, pop open the little black box in the corner, take out a disc (careful, it pops out with velocity and hit me in the eye), and put it all back together again. Viola. The product as it should have originally been designed.5 stars for the product minus one star for making me perform surgery on it.Highly recommend if you don't mind a little work or "ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh".

BUY this charger for the Samsung Galaxy S4
I compared all wireless chargers listed on Amazon and I believe the Koolpad to be the best value available at this time. Sure, there are pads available for half the cost, but if you read the reviews, there is a good chance you would be disappointed with the product. (Moreover, the Koolpad is still about half the cost of the Samsung charger kit, and, by many accounts, performs better; additional, the thicker replacement battery cover in the Samsung kit prevents the use of many cases.) Many of reviews complained of an annoying beep when the phone and charger are mated, and a more expensive "muted" version is available (alternatively, the regular unit could be "hacked" to disable the beeper). Yet I ordered the regular unit and found that it DOES NOT PRODUCE ANY ANNOYING BEEP. Apparently, the company has discontinued the beeper; it is totally unnecessary, as the unit has a nice, easy-to-see but non-intrusive LED green light on the surface which turns blue when the phone is mated and charging begun. I would have liked it if the blue light would turn back to green to alert you that charging was complete (it stays blue), but you can easily determine this from the LED Indicator lights on the on the top left of the GS4 which show red when charging and green when completely charged (the LEDs only show up after the display light goes out, usually in about 6-10 seconds). A major plus for the Koolpad is that the "power distance" (an indicator of ability to unit to charge the phone through a non-metallic case) over 2-1/2 times that of most cheaper chargers (8mm vs. 3mm, or 5/16" vs. less than 1/8"). The Koolpad does NOT come with a power adapter, but this is actually good, since it saves you money over the unnecessary and inferior adapters that come with cheap units, since you simply use the more powerful Samsung OEM or "stock" power adapter which is rated 2.0A instead of the meager .5 to 1.0A of most cheaper units. Charging time seems no longer than with using the cord, and the unit does not run hot. I have not tested if the company's power distance claim of 8mm is accurate, but I do know that my GS4 phone starts to charge immediately after placing it on the charging pad, charging right through my Incipio 2-layer case (hard shell with a silicone liner). The charging base is a smooth plastic about the same dimensions as the GS4 (making alignment or pairing simple), but it is easy for the phone to slide off-center if bumped. One easy and effective work-around is to install 2 rubber bands around the base, one at the top and one at the bottom (about 3/4" from the ends). This totally prevents the phone from shifting accidentally. Regarding the need for an internal receiver (with a Qi chip), I purchased a MOCREO one, since it was eligible for free Prime 2-day shipping, as was the Koolpad, and both arrived in the same box. (Cheaper receivers can be ordered but shipping/handling fees generally make them more expensive and certainly increase the delivery time. If you have Amazon Prime, I suggest you order the MOCREO receiver; the only other receiver that I saw that was eligible for Prime shipping, was significantly more expensive.) This unit can be installed instantly and works well; it has good recessed contacts that make secure connection with the phone's terminals (a complaint about some cheaper receiver pads) and are held in place securely simply by the back cover, which only bulges slightly and does not interfere with my Incipio case in the least. I found no NFC interference with this receiver pad.

Works, but can be very touchy.
I purchased this to use with my wife's iPhone 6 after purchasing a case that is supposedly designed for the iPhone 6 for Qi charging. The case has the receiver built in, not one of those that has the receiver that sticks to the back of the phone between the case & the phone. The charging pad does charge, and it does not get hot at all. However, it is very touchy about the placement of the phone. If the phone is the least bit "off center" (wherever that is), it cuts in & out, and if the phone is not muted, beeps every time it does that. We have found the "sweet spot" where it will continually charge several times, but it does not seem to be in the same place each time! If we can find where that spot is, we will continue using the KoolPad. If we can't, we'll go back to the traditional charging cable.

Love / hate relationship
Love / hate relationship. Works very well. In addition to an indicator light to let you know it's charging, it will also beep when it first turns on. It also has a temperature sensor to keep from over heating your battery while charging. When doing a full charge on my phone, eventually it shut off when it gets luke warm, then kicks on with a beep. Then off, then on.... You get the picture. I wish you could turn off the audible que. Neither device gets hot, and charges are always full and long lasting. It seems like the charger's smart chip works well at protecting your charged device. It just needs to be quiet about it. :-)

Koolpad Qi pad + S5 SlimPWRcard + Otterbox Commuter works...!
Bought this for use with my Samsung Galaxy S5. Also bought the "S5 SlimPWRcard - 0.5mm Ultra Thin Qi Receiver Card Module for Samsung Galaxy S5" from Fonesalesman. It works very well, and the combination of the two products provides the wireless charging capability that I was looking for. The Koolpad is very light. I'd actually prefer it to be heavier, given its purpose, to provide more stability. Initially I couldn't get it to charge my phone so after double checking that I'd installed the card properly and that the Koolpad was powered on (powered on light was green) I realised I wasn't being precise enough with my positioning of the phone on the charger. When you place the phone on the charger position it in the same direction as the charger (as opposed to perpendicular) and position it so you can see the power light on the charger (which turns blue when charging). It then works perfectly.I have an Otterbox Commuter case on my phone, so I was concerned that wireless charging may not work through the back case of my phone and the Otterbox case. No worries though, it works perfectly and you'd never know the S5 SlimPWRcard card is installed. i.e. it doesn't create any visible bulge on the back of the phone case.Giving 4 stars instead of 5 as I'd prefer the Koolpad to have more weight to give it better stability.

Works well...if you switch your phone off.
Unlike reviews of some other, cheaper QI chargers I've seen, I've found this item works brilliantly with some learning. Placement is easy - you do have to experiment the first time, but after that it's just plonk and go. I found this item heats my Nexus 4 to worryingly high temperatures, but only when the phone is on. Once the phone is switched off it charges fine and doesn't heat too much. No idea why this would be. Switching the phone off has the added benefit of maintaining the charge, as this item doesn't start charging again once the phone starts to lose charge. Not a problem for me as I charge it overnight and I don't want multiple beeps (or phone calls etc) waking me up! It beeps once to signify charging has started, charges the phone, then switches back into standby mode. Overall this is a great purchase for my particular needs, but with some caveats that others might find off-putting.

Works well with the Nexus 5
Great Little Gadget!!I've ordered it a couple of weeks ago and have been using it to charge my Nexus 5 on daily basis, it's not perfect but pretty good.Good Points, it's small, it's flat, it charges the phone quickly, it blends in, my is sitting on a black glass table and it's almost invisible, it's convenient, when I phone call or a massage comes in you don't have to unplug the phone or fiddle around with cables, simply pick the phone up, answer the call and put it back down to continue charging, it charges the phone with covers/cases on as well.Bad points, there are only two really, and both are the annoying LED lights on it, first of all it has a large blue light showing that it's charging the phone, when you place your phone on it, it will beep to let you know that it's charging, and the phones screen comes on for few seconds to show that it's being charged, in my eyes that is enough, if they really wanted a light on it then why not have it come on once the phone is fully charged, as there is no way of telling when the battery is full, it will just continue showing blue as if it's still charging the phone even when it's not charging it any more. The other really annoying thing about it is the Green light (Blue changes to Green) that is on when the Koolpad is actually plugged in to show that it's connected to a power source, there is really no need for that at all. There is also a small issue of heat, the phone will get a bit warm but it's not bad at all, and to be honest it seems to get less hot with time, when I used it for the first few times it was getting really hot to the point where I was thinking about sending it back, but now after a couple of weeks it gets warm but it's not bad all.I would give it 5 stars if it wasn't for those annoying LEDs.Overall a good product and a useful one as well.

Excellent wireless charger
I use this to charge my Nexus 5, and have had it now for nearly 6 months, so I feel I can give it a fair review. It simply works - I place my Nexus 5 on top and it starts charging! I always leave it on overnight and usually have tethering turned on and it's always fully charged the next morning. I've never had any problems with overheating and the LED indicator isn't as intrusive as some people say, nor are there any bleeps upon fully charged - I use this in my bedroom so I would have noticed! I have my phone in a full body case (Spigen Neo Hybrid) and it charges through that with ease.Overall, I'm very pleased with the product, and it saves having to wear out the USB connector!

It has worked brilliantly so far on my desk at work
I wasn't sure what to expect with this product as I had been looking at an official samsung charger but I went for this due to the price. It has worked brilliantly so far on my desk at work. The only thing I didn't like it the annoyingly loud beep it makes when you place the phone on the charger. Once it is fully charged it seems to then wait until it is down to 99% on the battery and then beeps again to indicate it is charging again. This could be really annoying if it was next your bed. I managed to remove the speaker from inside it though so I am very happy now and it doesn't annoy my colleagues.
