OK power
I just got the product, so I don't know about long-term reliability. This has boosted the perceived loudness of my IBM T43 laptop's built in speakers by a factor of ~4, even though it's powered by just 1 USB port (i.e. 2.5 W max power). The clamp it too narrow to fit my laptop's thick screen. Tweakers take note

Perfect solution for us
Just got this speaker system. Clamp fits our laptop (an Acer) fine and sound is increased a LOT. We bought this so that we would be able to watch Netflix Streaming movies when we have guests using our TV/spare bedroom. This will do it!

Far off from what I expected
Having owned quite a few decent small portable speakers that I use for work, I've honestly come across the worst of the bunch. My first foray into miniature sound systems has forever tainted me to future purchases as I was lucky enough to own a philips shoqbox 128mb mp3 player/sound system. It really was a very unique little system, one that every time I would fire it up in a customers house, they'd wonder where all that big sound was coming from. Ever since that unit died on me after two strong years of use, I have been trying to find the "elusive unicorn" of mp3 micro speakers. Currently, I'm using a logitech unit, and though it's good, it's not even comparable to the shoqbox's power. That brings us to THIS unit. First off, upon opening the package, I really did expect it to be a little bit larger, and size really didn't make a difference for sound quality with the shoqbox, so I put first impressions aside. That being said, to my dismay, the battery function of the unit is housed in a separate box, which is not all bad, but when I tried to plug it in, with new, fresh batteries, it made a "record scratch" sound, and went off. When I plugged it into my computer, the power worked, but I was incredibly underwhelmed. The bass on the unit was dreadful, if there at all. Again, some may say "it's a small unit, what do you expect from it".... well, to that my answer is simple... SHOQBOX QUALITY! I know I paid quite a substantial amount more for the philips unit when it came out, but as time goes on, and R&D is done, and others typically copy designs, things become competitive, and you can usually get something of comparable quality years after the release of the initial device. Again, I'm on the hunt for what I know I may never find again, but this unit really was a HUGE disappointment. Do yourself a favor and steer clear because you'll simply be wasting your money.

Cheep amplifier.
I picked one of these speakers from a discount supplier the other day. They emit a constant Hum that is annoying. As I paid so little for them, it is not worth the time or money to ship them back. I would not recommend these to anyone as there are so many alternatives available.
