Decent tool
For some reason they painted over the edge but once you get that paint off it’s pretty sharp. Probably not professional quality but very nice for the price.

Excellent
Some of these people are crazy. I did not expect much from this. I was initially concerned that it was dull and they simply painted over the edge. After a good number of passes, I wore off the pain covering the edge (normal use) as the paint came off the cutting edge it preformed better and better. I have done several black walnut logs 30" wide and between 10' and 16' long. Also a few butternut logs or roughly the same dimensions but maybe a touch smaller. I HAVE NEVER SHARPENED IT ONCE!!!! It holds a good edge. It's not sharp like a precision chisel but it does not need to be!!!?? I also rounded a lot of corners to make some rustic benches, well over 150' if lined up... Again, not sharpened once. I finally dulled the blade today. I used it other than intended to scrape some industrial film off a pipe. That is a job that usually takes 2 people 12hrs. I did it solo in about 8hrs with this thing. It was metal on metal and at a high angle to scrape. I rounded a decent butt on the edge doing so. A quick pass with a good file cleaned it right up..... If I were to do fine wood working I would probably want something better but would expect to pay mid hundred dollars or so. That is not what this is..... If you are debarking a tree, it is amazing right out of the box. I would have been happy paying twice as much..... As to the people who clamed to ruin the edge on some nots, you were either EXTREMELY unlucky or you didn't realize that you did indeed cut though a nail. Now that messed mine up (again MY FAULT) I am about to buy another. That is why I'm leaving a comment now. I will say, I prefer to use it upside down and hold an angle myself, it seems to work better that way. I am also doing rather large logs. It would be nice if it were slightly wider but, if you are doing normal size logs, this will work just fine. It still works fine on the larger logs, just need to be mindful of some nots on the side so you don't bust up your knuckles. Good luck all and definitely a great choice for down and dirty stuff.

Try it before reviewing!
I read a few horrible reviews about this and I don't know why people didn't test it first before reviewing. I rubbed my hand along the edge and it wasn't even close to sharp. I went ahead and tried it anyways and it ended up shaving off the bark as well as some of the tree. Pretty amazed that it can do that without a sharp edge. I took 20 minutes on the first log. In the second log, I figured out how to use to correctly and took 11 minutes. I thought I could have the knife follow the shape of the log, but either the log was too big or I didn't know how to use one. The videos I found were people using a straight one and not curved. Anyways, have the knife curved like a U and then you just pull towards you. If you have it angled a little in the air, it goes by very smoothly. The blade has a little bevel to it, so just follow that angle and it will go smoothly. It will make you question if you are in shape though. After 2 logs, I was out of breath and needed a break. The logs in the picture are pine: 4 feet in length and 14 to 16 inches in diameter. If you have an entire forest to debark, I wouldn't recommend this. Definitely spend the $300 to get the chainsaw attachment to debark if you have that many.

You will have to sharpen it first!
I received the knife in fine shape. It is NOT ready to use out of the package. You will have to sharpen! The knife was not even close to “rough” grind let alone ready to be honed. I took it to my belt grinder, then to a 3000 grit diamond stone, followed by a leather strop and now it is a joy to use and works very well.Pros: inexpensive, nice size, heavy duty, great handles and comfortable.Cons: Needs lots of edge work before you can use it. I have butter knives in my drawer that have a sharper edge than this right out of the package.Overall descent for the price and a first time buyer like myself if you are willing to put the time in to sharpen/grind the edge. DO NOT expect to use it as soon as received, you will be disappointed for sure.

slightly different need, but worked great
My need was a bit different: I have existing hand-peeled log posts and railings, and just wanted to peel off an old opaque latex stain to go back to a semi-transparent oil stain. Sanding was painfully slow, and my old 4" knife, while fine for small railings and balusters, was just too small for the big posts. This knife was big, beefy, and easily sharp enough to peel off a very thin layer to remove the old stain. It made very fast work of my big posts. It was even sharp enough to put a nice nick in my thumb when I grabbed it in a careless way while up a ladder. So far, I have had not even needed to re-sharpen it. I am very happy with this knife.

Solid, but dull
Seems pretty solidly built and should hold up pretty well longterm. However, the blade did arrive pretty dull, so will need sharpening before use.

Works great
Of course you will have to file it down before use but once done, this works great. Saved us a lot of time to do our chicken coop fence as we started peeling the bark of the trees by hand which was a real pain

Impressive (smaller) draw knife
On my first time of use and that was only a trial before I start to skin the logs for my log cabin build this summer. I was impressed how it was very sturdy regardless of the short length which also helps with the ease of use for longer periods of use.
