HooToo USB C Hub, Shuttle 3.1 Type C Hub with 3 USB 3.0 Ports and Card Reader for 2015 New MacBook, Chromebook Pixel, and More

I just bought this hub to go with my new MacBook Pro 2016, and I have not been disappointed.My goal when looking for a USB-C hub was to find one that was both inexpensive and high quality. This one suits exactly what I was looking for. Right away I was impressed with the packaging and build quality of the hub. It is lightweight and clean. I was pleasantly surprised by the light-up HooToo logo on the hub when you have it plugged into the computer. It is a nice touch over a simple LED light that you typically find on accessories like this.The performance of the hub is as good as advertised as well. While I will rarely be using all the ports at once, it instantly and seamlessly registered my SD card, charged my phone (not slow charging, either), loaded a flash drive, and worked with my wireless mouse.My only negative for this is that it is a wired dongle and not one that sits flush on the laptop. Still, you can't beat the product for the price.

I bought the USB-C Hub from HooToo on the recommendation of a YouTuber and initially had no complaints. After using it for several months, I've noticed the USB-C connector is very finicky with the 2016 MacBook Pro's ports. On every port of my computer, the cable connects very loosely and is easily knocked out with a slight tap, resulting in drives disconnecting frequently, which is insanely frustrating when working off of a drive. I've tested my ports with other USB-C connectors to see if it was my MBP, but other products connect securely and remain attached just fine. The 5 GB/s transfer speed claimed through their USB 3.0 ports is also grossly exaggerated. I ran multiple speed tests on numerous USB 3 and USB 3.1 drives connected to the Hub and none of them got close. The fastest one peaked at 202 MB/s write and 234 MB/s read. These same drives have hit up to 2-3 GB/s when connected to traditional USB 3.1 ports on a computer.All in all, the HooToo Hub is far from perfect, but will get the job done in a pinch, especially given since the market for these hubs hasn't taken off yet. Would it be my first choice when shopping though? No, no it would not.

Works well with my new MacBook 15" with touch bar. I had to get this to replace the USB and Smart Card reader interfaces that I had on my old MacBook. I've had it now for a couple week and have had no problems. I had to restart my computer 1 time the first time I plugged it in before on of my applications would recognize it but it was only that one time. Otherwise it's been smooth sailing. I have an external drive connected through it and haven't had any issues. I think the design looks nice as well.

The reason for a 2 start review is that this hub does NOT work with an external USB CD Drive (Apple SuperDrive) as it does not supply power to the drive. Therefore, it works great if you have USB devices that may not require power via a usb cable such as the SuperDrive. I like the slim design of the hub and that it has 3 USB ports.EDIT: After my initial review, a customer service representative contacted me and said that tests were done confirming that the hub does not work with the SuperDrive. They refunded my money due to this issue. With such great customer service, I will not hesitate to purchase another product from this seller. Thus, I am amending my initial review and giving the product 4 stars as it works for the majority of accessories (i.e. external hard drives, iPhone charging/backup).

The hub worked great for a good while it was versatile and fast and sleek looking but then I started having trouble with the SD card reader. Other than that the 2 of the USB ports worked fine so thats what I used it for. Eventually I contacted HooToo and they were quick to respond and verified my problem and sent a replacement since it was still under warranty. I am happy that they honored their warranty and satisfied by their customer service. This new hub looks to be in different packaging it could be possible this one was updated or maybe just the packaging regardless I hope it will last longer than the last one I had!

I bought this for my wife since she bought the new 2017 Macbook Pro with touch panel and had legacy USB's. She needed something to transfer pics and other files from other drives. This did the job and has helped her for more oncoming needs with other USB C products we have around in the house.

I received a unit a few weeks back, and unfortunately the SD Card slot did not work. I didn't bother to complain or send it back as I've been far too busy, however someone from customer service reached out to me via email to ask how I enjoyed my unit. They ended up sending me a 2nd unit express free of charge, and it works great! Incredible customer service. A++

I bought this with the hopes of being able to import photos from an SD card to the new macbook pro, but the SD card slot stopped working after the first try. If it worked I'm sure it would be great, it came in nice packaging and feels solid but it just didn't work.
